AIADMK rejects Cauvery solution

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and its allies today rejected the accord reached on Cauvery water issue at the meeting chaired by Prime Minister A B Vajpayee and attended by the chief ministers of four riparian states at New Delhi yesterday.

After a three-hour meeting at the Poes Garden residence of party supremo J Jayalalitha, the AIADMK and its allies, part of the Bharatiya Janta Party-led coalition government at the Centre, rejected the accord, stating that it was against Tamil Nadu's interests.

After the meeting, Pattali Makkal Katchi founder leader Dr S Ramadoss and Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko told the media that the alliance parties rejected the agreement.

Jayalalitha, who chaired the meeting, was expected to come out with a detailed statement giving reasons for the rejection, party sources said.
