Kerala House bids adieu to home of old

President K R Narayanan will inaugurate the new Kerala assembly complex in Thiruvananthapuram on May 22.

Speaker M Vijayakumar informed the state assembly that he had received an official communication in this regard from the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Work on the complex, the foundation stone for which was laid by former president Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, had begun in 1979.

The present assembly building, which has witnessed various historic developments in the state, would be protected as a monument, the speaker said.

Thursday's sitting was the last in the present assembly hall in the state secretariat complex.
