Subject: Why T V R Shenoy supports the choice of Vajpayee

It is very well anlysed and written. I also am happy that Vajpayee has been chosen the leader. I think he is a good statesman.

Many of us are relieved the Congress, which had been given about 45 years to tear our nation, has not been able to come back to power. When we sent the monarchs home, why are we encouraging the Nehru dynasty? They have not turned out to be good leaders for the nation.

We do hope the BJP will be a good option and our great nation will once again come back to glory.

While agreeing with the contents I wish to point out that it is customary to use quotes verbatim. Refering to the opening of the article with the Kennedy quote, the correct quote is as follows: "Success is bastard, Failure is an Orphan"

Subject: The stage is set for a classic battle between two pillars of Democracy

I think this article is provocative. Actually, in a state like UP, which has seen the longest duration of President's rule in the country without court intervention, could the proceedings have been more peaceful? He misses the whole point of the situation and quotes from civic text books that all three pillars should have balance.

What about peace to the people of that state? Would you have liked to let another fight like the last time when there was a confidence motion in the House, just to satisfy the lines in civic books? If you observe the way any democracy in the West functions, "Nobody is above the law" is what you get. We've been fed that all three pillars should have balance instead of appreciating the fact that due to the Supreme Court's directive "Serious consequences will follow..." (in case of violence) the whole process was peaceful.

In a legislative assembly where the ballot box has to be chained and the microphones removed before voting, Mr Shenoy's view requires at least 15 ambulances to be stationed outside the House.

Reading your past articles, Mr Shenoy, I surely expected better logic and reasoning. And, why blame the legislators. The people of UP are to be blamed for this whole joke of electing such representatives. What you sow is what you reap.

Outstanding! Need more thought-provoking journalists such as the esteemed author of this column. This is the type of matter/issues that journalists should take up rather than some "trash" aspect of political happenings.

Shenoy needs to be commended for his article.
