How often do you surf?
I don't surf often now. But there was a point in time when I was online 18 hours a day. But the last few months have been busy, what with modelling and acting.
When I do get online, I do lots of things. I chat, email and message friends and look up information. Lately, most of my chatting happens via SMS. It's easier than having to connect to the Net!
Any interesting experiences online?
I came to India three years ago, all because of the Internet. I was based in England with a nine-to-five job that needed me to be very PC and Net savvy. With a degree in computing and Internet technology I had a few friends put up a Web site with my pictures, campaigns and portfolio.
I found Farrokh Chothia (a famous photographer based in Mumbai) online when I was surfing aimlessly one night. I mailed him pictures to elicit feedback and find out if I'd be able to work in India. He responded favourably and after exchanging email over a few months, I visited him in Mumbai on a holiday. He liked my pictures and helped me out after meeting me in person. That's how I began modelling.
Have you ever chatted with strangers?
I've chatted with a lot of them and enjoyed it too. Now though, I don't reveal my identity because the Net, according to me, is all about anonymity. If you disclose who you are, you take the beauty of the Net away. Eventually, we all get online because we are not judged by our grades, our looks and our bodies. So I never reveal my identity or show my pictures when I'm chatting.
What do you like and hate most about the Internet?
What I enjoy is the access it can give you. If I hadn't met Farrokh on the Internet, modelling and acting would never have happened to me. I even had a few offers from Hollywood and a pop scout wrote to me after viewing my site about a girl band he wanted to launch. I wasn't interested then, though I did meet the pop scout in New York. Even though things didn't work out, we're still in touch. One just has to know how to utilise the power of the Net otherwise one can waste a lot of time.
What I hate are the slow speeds. After being used to FCN lines in England, even the fastest broadband or cable connections seem pitifully slow.
What's your idea of a perfect Web site?
I loved mine. It was very flashy, with my portfolio, video streams of my campaigns and my biography. I'm working on getting a new one done now with lots of information and updates.
Is there any Web gadget you'd like to own?
I have to get myself a laptop. That's gonna be my birthday present this year!
Have you ever bought or sold anything online?
No I'm not adventurous enough. My friends do it very often, especially booking air tickets, etc.
Who would you like to chat with online?
I'd love to chat with Mel Gibson and Angelina Jolie. Though meeting them in person would be absolutely great, even an online chat would be nice because in my experience people are more honest and speak easy when they are online.
