To enjoy the Web to its full potential, including music, animation and video, you need a computer equipped with a sound and a video card. Besides this, you also need a software program called a plug-in depending on the site you are browsing.
Most sites - predominantly entertainment, games, movies etc - are designed on a multimedia platform and you will need a plug-in to view the site. Plug-ins basically increase the scope of your web browser by extending its capabilities.

WEB RESOURCES:
Depending upon the site’s requirement, there are different kinds of plug-ins you will have to download - multimedia, image, sound, document and 3D.
These are some common ones:
Multimedia plug-ins: Quicktime, Media Player, Real Player.
Image plug-ins: Flash and Shockwave.
Sound plug-ins: Liquid Music Player and MidiShare.
Document plug-ins: Acrobat and FlipBrowser.
3D plug-ins: Atmosphere and Superscape e-visualiser
Whenever you come across a site that needs a browser plug-in, you will be prompted to download it immediately. Create a folder where you can download the plug-in. Once that is done, click on the file that will probably be called ‘plug-in.exe’ and double click to install it on your machine. You can delete this file later, once your installation is complete.
