October 04, 2017 13:38 IST

Amitabh Bachchan turns 75 on October 11.

Rediff.com celebrates the superstar's birthday with this special series, looking back at the very things that made him the BIG B.

We first published this special in October 2013.

We bring to you unseen pictures of the legendary actor from his life, with some interesting trivia.

The pictures have been posted by Amitabh himself on his official social media accounts.

Amitabh Bachchan will be seen with Aamir Khan in Thugs of Hindostan next.

Here the actors take a break between the shot; Amitabh writes: 'THUGS OF HINDOSTAN in a short respite from the gruelling shoot in Malta.'

Amitabh remembers shooting on the sets of Zanjeer along with Jaya Bachchan. 'A shoot from 'Zanjeer' and the wifely instincts leap up .. the way to a man's heart is via his stomach .. we were not married then'

Here is the picture from Amitabh's first film Saat Hindustani released in 1969. 'that scene from my 1st film 'Saat Hindustani' when fighting for independence & tortured says Hum Hindustani Rengte nahi'

Seen here is a still of the Big B with Amjad Khan on the sets of Coolie.

This was Amitabh's first day at work after recovering from the near-fatal accident while filming a fight sequence in this film.

Amitabh and co-star Puneet Issar were shooting a fight sequence in Bangalore, when a mistimed punch-and-jump left the Big B with a ruptured spleen.

The actor was immediately airlifted to Mumbai where he was hospitalised for two weeks.

'I told Manmohan Desai, when I resume shooting I want it to start from the same shot that I was felled during the accident. I had wanted to get up and punch the villain !! This exactly what I did ! Amjad and many other friends came to wish me on resumption of work,' Amitabh wrote.

Amitabh Bachchan wrestles with a tiger on the sets of Khoon Pasina in Mumbai. This scene went on to become one of the most popular fight sequences in his career.

Amitabh, however, remembers this sequence for other reasons.

'During the shoot I got the news of Abhishek’s birth at Breach Candy Hospital , and I stopped the shoot and rushed there,' Amitabh wrote. 'Everyone on set commented as I left .. “agar beta hua toh uska naam Tiger rakhna” !! Ha ha ! For long years till I think he was 4 or 5 years old I would call him Tiger when I would call from locations on phone.'

Amitabh Bachchan chats with filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee while Rajesh Khanna looks on.

'Namakharam bore seeds of the anger that was next seen in Zanjeer, and the subsequent titling of the epithet ‘angry young man’ by the media. But I have always believed that the first powerful depiction or in a sense the birth of the so called ‘angry young man’, was designed by Mehboob Saheb in ‘Mother India’, where the character Birju, played so brilliantly by Sunil Dutt, was depicted. I worked in two films with Rajesh Khanna – Anand and Namakharam. Both were successful ventures,' Amitabh wrote.
