How these Bollywood movies are becoming POPULAR!

Last updated on: April 06, 2020 21:44 IST

The lockdown has proven beneficial for the OTT platform.

With millions of people at home due to the coronavirus outbreak, digital avenues like Amazon Prime, Netflix, ZEE 5 and Hotstar have come to the rescue of those who need entertainment.

At the top of the game, these platforms are showcasing Bollywood's newest releases and audiences are enjoying their offerings from the comfort of their couch.

The big screen hits like Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior, Good Newwz and Dabangg 3 are, of course, enjoying continued patronage on the small screen, but the lockdown has come as a boon for those films that either did not do well at the box office or had a restricted run and now are running on the OTT platforms.

Joginder Tuteja takes a look at films which didn't do as well at the box office, but are performing well on the digital platform.

Street Dancer 3D
Box office collections: Rs 75 crore
Amazon Prime

It was supposed to be yet another Rs 100 crore film for Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor and Prabhudheva.

After all, the trio was returning with Director Remo D'Souza after the century-making ABCD 2 - Any Body Can Dance.

Unfortunately, Street Dancer 3D fell way short.

Now, the film has become a hit on Amazon Prime.

Panipat
Box office collections: Rs 33.75 crore
Netflix

Set up as a magnum opus, there were major expectations from Panipat.

Ashutosh Gowariker was returning with another period war drama and with Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Kapoor and Kriti Sanon coming together, it was a star-studded historical.

But it was a disaster at the box office.

After its Netflix premiere, Panipat has been finding a regular audience.

Commando 3
Box office collections: Rs 32.47 crore
ZEE5

Vidyut Jammwal is known for his Commando franchise and each of the three installments has done decent business.

Commando 3 could have been big in theatres, but its OTT arrival is the biggest attraction on the ZEE5 platform.

Even otherwise, Commando had been a hit on the small screen and Commando 3 is following it up in a major way.

Chhapaak
Box office collections: Rs 34.08 crore
Hotstar

Chhapaak barely made any ripples at the box office.

Now that the film has arrived on Hotstar, the Meghna Gulzar directorial is finding a good audience.

Bypass Road
Box office collections: Rs 1.25 crore

This film is finally finding a deserving audience for itself.

On its release, it couldn't even gain a start as it clashed with Ayushmann Khurranna's century-maker Bala and hence, there were no screens at its disposal.

The Neil Nitin Mukesh starrer is now finding ample screens on Netflix and has made it to the Top 10 list.

Yeh Saali Aashiqui
Box office collection: Rs 0.76 crore
ZEE5

Chances are you haven't even heard of Vardhan Puri and Shivaleeka Oberoi's launch film Yeh Saali Aashiqui.

The twisted romantic thriller is finding an audience on ZEE5.

Jawaani Jaaneman
Box office collections: Rs 28.98 crore
Amazon Prime

After a flurry of flops, Saif Ali Khan managed a breather of sorts when Jawaani Jaaneman did fair business at the box office.

Still, it wasn't a clean success.

He won't be complaining now as ever since its Amazon Prime launch, Jawaani Jaaneman has been getting good eyeballs.

Paharganj
Box office collections: Rs 0.30 crore
Netflix

The film released unannounced and disappeared without making any impression.

But this unknown film gets premium showcasing on Netflix.

Result? This mystery drama has made it to the Top 10 list.

Hacked
Box office collections: Rs 1.77 crore
ZEE5

Vikram Bhatt's thriller was a major disaster at the box office.

Though low costs saved the day for it, the film is now making profits for those who backed it for the OTT debut, as ZEE5 has given it premium showcasing.

The Hina Khan starrer is finding a good audience now.

Panga
Box office collections: Rs 28.92 crore
Hotstar

Kangana Ranaut's Panga was an underperformer at the box office.

The film stayed under Rs 30 crore mark and had a short run in theatres.

Hotstar came to its rescue and now, audiences are happy watching Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari's feel good film.
