Finding love outside marriage happens often in Hindi films.

Taapsee Pannu finds herself doing that in Haseen Dillruba, where she is married to Vikrant Massey but discovers love and lust in Harshvardhan Rane.

Joginder Tuteja looks at movies where women have explored love outside marriage.

Taapsee Pannu, Badla

A shocking and unexpected car accident takes place due to Taapsee's extra-marital affair in Badla and changes her life forever.

Her lawyer, played by Amitabh Bachchan, tries to right her life again, or so it would seem, until the final twist in the story reveals who the true characters really are.

Taapsee Pannu, Manmarziyaan

The extramarital affair plays out very differently in Anurag Kashyap's Manmarziyaan.

Here, Taapsee returns to the love of her life (Vicky Kaushal) though she is married to Abhishek Bachchan.

In a twist, it's not Vicky who finally gets the girl.

Rani Mukerji, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna

Abhishek finds himself at the wrong end in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna as well as his wife (Rani) falls for the married Shah Rukh Khan.

Karan Johar's take on extramarital reltionships may have done better in today's times.

The film also starred Preity Zinta as Shah Rukh's wife.

Anushka Sharma, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

This one was a unique setting, as Anushka falls in love with a man who was actually her husband (Shah Rukh Khan) and yet, unrecognisable to her.

A rather complex plot, which came with its fair share of loopholes, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi was directed by Aditya Chopra.

Anushka, in her debut role, showed the audience her inner dilemma well.

Alia Bhatt, Kalank

In Kalank, Alia found herself in a marriage of convenience with Aditya Roy Kapur.

Her heart, meanwhile, is with Varun Dhawan.

Even though the relationship was justified in the film, it did not culminate in a happy ending.

Ileana D'Cruz, Rustom

Rustom was based on the Nanavati murder case of the 1950s.

Ileana falls in love with the debonair Arjan Bajwa, despite being married to navy officer Akshay Kumar.

Someone gets murdered, and a courtroom drama ensues.

Ameesha Patel, Humraaz

Humraaz saw Ameesha plots with lover Akshaye Khanna so that she can marry super rich Bobby Deol and take over his wealth.

The film, in true Abbas-Mustan style, saw twist after twist after twist.

Mallika Sherawat, Murder

Ameesha's brother Ashmit Patel played Mallika's husband in Murder. One day, she meets Emraan Hashmi and they start an affair.

Several kisses and Bheege Hoth Tere later, Mallika realises it's all wrong.

A murder takes place and eventually, all is well again.

Sunny Leone, One Night Stand

Sunny plays a married woman who has a 'one night stand' and then realises that this is not a relationship for keeps.

Even as her partner Tanuj Virwan, wonders what really went wrong, Sunny moves on.
