WORST Amitabh Bachchan remake so far? VOTE!

Last updated on: September 12, 2013 08:41 IST
Priyanka Chopra and Ram Charan in Zanjeer
Most actors dream of a resume like Amitabh Bachchan.

Most filmmakers have grown up on a steady diet of his blockbusters.

And the closest thing that comes to recreating the Big B magic is the desire to remake some of his milestones much to the dismay of most purists.

Ambitious plans don't always translate to memorable creations. If few garner box office success, rest are unanimously cold shouldered.

On that note, let's look at how the remakes of notable AB starrers have fared so far.

Zanjeer

One did not imagine any other film matching the disgrace associated with RGV Ki Aag so soon. But Apoorva Lakhia's hugely panned remake of Prakash Mehra's Zanjeer does just that with its sheer disregard for sense, subtlety or skill.

Telugu star Ram Charan fails to slip in Vijay Khanna's angry young cop shoes with his deadpan expressions, Prakashraj single-handedly destroys the suave manners of Ajit's Teja while Priyanka Chopra (in her third Big B remake) shrieks her way in and out.

Don: The Chase Begins Again

Shah Rukh Khan in Don
Farhan Akhtar upgraded the 1978 cult classic, lending it a decidedly glossy texture, slick screenplay, a superstar lead in Shah Rukh Khan and a twist ending to dole out a remake and its subsequent sequel.

Even if the purists fumed, a generation unfamiliar with the virtues of the original happily lapped up SRK mouthing famous lines like 'Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi, namumkin hai.'

Agneepath

Hrithik Roshan in Agneepath
Karan Johar remade Big B's acclaimed yet under-performing Agneepath with the single purpose of making it a huge hit.

And he achieved that target quite commendably courtesy Sanjay Dutt and Rishi Kapoor's dazzling villainy, Hrithik Roshan's biting intensity and Katrina Kaif's heavy-duty moves as Chikni Chameli.

Did it surpass the Bachchan force? Of course not.

Ramgopal Varma Ki Aag

Amitabh Bachchan in Ramgopal Varma Ki Aag
Dubbed as a complete disaster by critics and audience, Ramgopal Varma's butchered version of Ramesh Sippy's beloved classic, Sholay ranks among the worst films in Bollywood history.

The rehash ruins everything special about the original with its obnoxious casting, dreadful dialogues and ridiculous screenplay. What's most painful is Bachchan too signed up to play a over-the-top Gabbar Singh in this forgettable farce.
