Spectacular end to India's Got Talent

The Prince Dance Group from Berhampur, Orissa was declared winner of the reality TV show, India's Got Talent, last weekend.

The group -- mostly consisting of daily wage labourers working on construction sites -- was awarded Rs 50 lakh in cash and a Maruti Suzuki Ritz car.

Along with judges Shekhar Kapur, Sonali Bendre and Kirron Kher, the show also saw guest stars Shahid Kapoor and Rani Mukerji, who were promoting their forthcoming film Dil Bole Hadippa.

The 20-member group gave a spellbinding performance by recreating the Dasavatar (an act from the Mahabharata) in the grand finale.

It was led by 26-year-old Krishna Reddy, who founded the group and also choreographs the performances.

"This is the best moment of our lives," Reddy says. "I don't have any words to express my happiness. We would like to thank all the viewers for voting for us."

"Most of the dancers in our group are construction site workers. A couple of them are physically handicapped," Reddy continues. "I don't think they will have to work there anymore. Now we have become professional dancers after winning this competition (smiles)."

So what will they do with the prize money? "We will start a dance academy for underprivileged children and build a home for all members of our group," he says.

"I always had faith on these children," Reddy says. "They are very hard working. I wanted to form a group by teaching these kids but I can't believe that we have reached this level in such a short span. We are here today because of God's grace and our hard work.

"We have performed in a couple of shows earlier but the recognition that we got from India's Got Talent is amazing. All thanks to the channel and the production house," he adds.

Did they ever expect to win the competition? "All the contestants were our toughest competitors," Reddy says. "We were confident that we would reach the finals. But we never thought we would win the competition."

The Prince Dance Group has not been formally trained by anyone. Whatever they have performed is self-taught.

The group was coated with paint when they performed. "I want the dancers to look like statues when they perform," Reddy explained.

Now, Reddy and his team are all set to take part in reality shows if they were offered.
