One requires a keen sense of melody while the other is aboutpainting imagination on celluloid. Making music and movies is not quite the same thing. Yet there are a few who've dared to do both.

While some fortunate ones did well in both, there are not-so-successful examples of just the same.

The latest to sign up for this dual role is director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Close on the heels of Guzaarish followed the music release of Tees MaarKhan, which boasts of a spunky title track concocted by its writer-producer Shirish Kunder.

Although the con caper is directed by his nifty wife Farah Khan, Kunder's not new to filmmaking.

The erstwhile editor made his debut behind the camera with Salman Khan-Akshay Kumar-Preity Zinta starrer Jaan-E-Mann in 2006.

Too bad the big-budgeted Diwali release got trounced by Shah Rukh Khan's Don: The Chase Begins at the box office.

Now here's a man who enjoys the enviable reputation of being both jack and master of all trades.

Though he began his innings producing classy score for Gulzar's Maachis and Hu Tu Tu alongside Chachi 420, Satya and Betaabi, Bhardwaj realised his own potential as filmmaker after he stumbled upon some exceptional foreign films.

Turns out he's aces at both, following his debut Makdee, Bhardwaj gathered stupendous acclaim for films like Maqbool, Omkara and Kaminey.

Hemant Kumar's soulful rendition of unforgettable songs like Tum pukaar lo,Na tum humein jaano, Beqarar karke humein continue to regale listeners to this date.

His work as the music director of films like Kohraa, Khamoshi, Anupma and Bees Saal Baad is equally notable.

In 1972, Hemantda made his debut as the director of Anindita, a Bengali film featuring Moushumi Chatterjee, which he produced as well but it wasn't a major success.

Composer Salil Chaudhary is responsible for some of the finest songs in Hindi cinema with soundtracks like Madhumati, Parakh, Chhaya, Anand and Rajnigandha to his credit.

Perhaps inspired by the works of filmmaker who'd often repeat him- Bimal Roy and Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Chaudhary, too, tried to don the director'scap with his little known attempt, Pinjre Ke Panchhi starring Abhi Bhattacharya and Meena Kumari.
