Vote: Your Favourite Yash Chopra heroine face-off

Last updated on: November 17, 2012 10:03 IST
Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in Jab Tak Hai Jaan

She loves him. She loves him too.

Exploring two sides of romantic devotion towards the same man has always fascinated filmmaker Yash Chopra.  Often his films have pitched the passion that dictates a woman's heart with the grace with which another holds back.

It's no surprise that most of his films boast of so many persuasive female characters.

From Daag's Sharmila Tagore and Raakhee vying for Rajesh Khanna's commitment to the late filmmaker's latest Jab Tak Hai Jaan, which pegs Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma as two very different women harbouring deep affections for Shah Rukh Khan, his romantic endeavors encourage us to pick sides.

Here's your chance to vote for your favourite two-heroine face-offs in a Yash Chopra offering.

Katrina Kaif-Anushka Sharma, Jab Tak Hai Jaan

In Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Katrina Kaif plays the quintessential doe-eyed dream girl whom SRK falls hook, line and sinker for.

Providing a complete contrast to her soft, feminine charms is Anushka Sharma as a young Discovery Channel intern with her carefree attitude and outspoken appeal.

Though they're both besotted by SRK, neither lady scratches each other's eyes out instead joining forces to help their man recover from a short-term memory loss.

Preity Zinta-Rani Mukerji, Veer-Zaara

Preity Zinta and Rani Mukerji in Veer-Zaara

Veer-Zaara as self-explanatory title suggests is all about SRK and Preity Zinta's timeless love that endures the test of time and tribulations.

And while PZ looks utterly bewitching as the Pakistani beauty with a heart of gold, it's Rani Mukerji's gutsy lawyer Saamiya Siddiqui coming to the couple's rescue who walks aways with the best scenes and lines in the film.

Madhuri Dixit-Karisma Kapoor, Dil To Pagal Hai

Madhuri Dixit Shah Rukh Khan and Karisma Kapoor in Dil To Pagal Hai

Another musical confection from Yash Chopra's school of lovey-dovey capers, DTPH is a full-fledged love triangle between a man (SRK), his muse (Madhuri Dixit) and his best friend (Karisma Kapoor). Obviously this leads to substantial friction between the latter two.

Whether it's the high-energy dance between the graceful Dixit and nimble Kapoor or their individual dilemma to deal with this unpleasant turn of events with dignity, DTPH dedicatedly explores the delicate facets of a woman in love.

Interestingly, Kapoor's vulnerable act topped Madhuri's drop dead gorgeousness to win the National Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Sridevi-Sridevi, Lamhe

Sridevi and Anil Kapoor in Lamhe

Sridevi challenges herself to play yet another memorable double role of her career in one of Yash Chopra's finest films.

Take your pick between the playful, demure and spirited Rajasthani belle Pallavi and her vivacious, modern and passionate daughter Pooja as the two of the most significant women in Anil Kapoor's life.

Rekha-Jaya Bachchan, Silsila

Rekha, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan in Silsila

Considered one of the greatest casting coups in Bollywood history, it took a lot of conviction of Chopra's behalf to rope Amitabh Bachchan, his wife Jaya and his legendary link-up Rekha in not just any routine romance but a love triangle involving an extramarital affair.

While Rekha looked every bit of a fey fantasy inspiring Big B's on screen poetry, Jaya B imparted grace to a part that portrayed at her dowdiest.

Despite these striking contrasts and the film's surprise failure, their face-off sequence remains iconic. So whom do you root for? Team JB or Team Rekha?

Raakhee-Waheeda Rehman/Neetu Singh-Naseem, Kabhi Kabhie

Raakhee, Waheeda Rehman, Neetu Singh and Naseem in Kabhi Kabhie

In Kabhi Kabhie, love lost is a running theme of both the generations. After a mesmerising Raakhee is forced to break up with her soul mate Amitabh Bachchan owing to parental pressure, the latter enters into a marriage of compromise with a Waheeda Rehman.

Although both the ladies are on the subdued side, Raakhee shares a healthy, warm rapport with her upbeat husband Shashi Kapoor as opposed to the uneasy vibes between a dull Rehman and distant AB.

In the next chapter, Rishi Kapoor plays the handsome object of affection between step sisters Neetu Singh and Naseem. But this one's a non-competition. Rishi-Neetu win hands down.

Sharmila Tagore-Raakhee, Daag: A Poem Of Love

Sharmila Tagore, Rajesh Khanna and Raakhee in Daag: A Poem Of Love

Bengali beauties Sharmila Tagore and Raakhee take turns to play Rajesh Khanna's wife in Chopra's romantic drama Daag.

While Tagore has the conventional, author-backed role that commands obvious sympathy, it's Raakhee's complex, humane depiction of the other woman that contributes to Daag's credibility.
