They may not be as popular as their superstar hubbies but don't underestimate the powerful first ladies of Bollywood. Other than balancing home, some of them manage to find time to indulge in their passion and convert it into interesting business propositions.

For instance, Sussanne Roshan took her career as an interior designer to another level when she launched her second store, The Charcoal Project recently. Here's looking at how star wives spend their time, and earn their moolah.

Not just satisfied playing wifey to Hrithik and a doting mom to Hrehaan and Hridhaan, this degree holder in interior design from Brooks College, Long Beach, California, announced her grand project earlier this year: a 14,000 square feet store called The Charcoal Project. On offer are antique furniture, home accessories and artefacts.

She also runs the House of Design and has done up homes of Rani Mukerji and Priyanka Chopra amongst others.

Adhuna Akhtar

Most of those trendy hairdos you see on your favourite stars are Adhuna's handiwork. On any given day, she's busier than husband Farhan Akhtar.

What's more, she changed the way stars look with her dishy hair twists to Aamir Khan and Saif Ali Khan in Dil Chahta Hai. Don't forget to add Rock On!!, Lakshya, Don and Rang De Basanti to that list.

Gauri Khan

Visiting Card Reads: Producer

When not playing hostess to the who's who at her residence Mannat, she manages affairs as a producer, and is the undisputed boss at Red Chillies Entertainment. The production company has made films such as Main Hoon Na, Om Shanti Om and My Name is Khan.

She's also involved in IPL team Kolkata Knights Riders, of which husband Shah Rukh Khan is co-owner.

The husband-wife duo is the brand ambassador for the upholstery label D'decor.

Husband Akshay may dole out flops and lose out on few crores here and there but Twinkle's business never sees a drop. There are always homes to design and newer clients to service.

She owns Mock-Ups and has been in home decor since 2000. Apparently, Twinkle's been interested in this field since childhood and pursued it after a stint with an architect when she was 16.

Meanwhile, after quitting movies as an actress, she continues to produce films starring Akshay.

Maheep Kapoor

Visiting Card Reads: Jewellery designer

Don't go by her frequent appearances at social dos, for actor Sanjay Kapoor's beautiful wife has more to her than just that. Her brand of jewellery is quite a rage amongst patrons.

Whenever Karan Johar and Farah Khan need the bling, they fall back on Maheep. The London-born Maheep's dream is to design a piece for Angelina Jolie some day. At the rate with which she's going, that day may not be too far.

Tanya Deol

Scion of a rich business family (Ahujas), daughter-in-law of the powerhouse Deols and wife of Bobby, Tanya is to the luxury born.

Yet, the low-profile Tanya has managed a name for herself in her chosen field. She owns the Good Earth store which retails furniture and home accessories. And guess who's her biggest fan? Brother-in-law Sunny, no less, who apparently loves her designs.

Seema Khan

With a surname as famous as Khan, Seema is no small fish. Though she may not be as popular as some of the other fashionistas, whenever she shows at the Fashion Weeks, the Khan-daan not only makes a power-packed appearance but also walk the ramp.

Don't be surprised if you see brother-in-law Salman and other top stars bowing for Sohail's wife.

Mana Shetty

Visiting Card Reads: Designer/Social activist

Like husband Suniel who's every bit a multi-tasker, with varied interests in fields as diverse as fashion, construction and hoteling, wife Mana is a relatively quiet performer but equally energetic.

While she's a fashion designer on one hand, she's also associated with her mother's NGO involved in the interests of under-privileged children. She often organises fund-raisers and events to support noble causes.

Bhavna Pandey

With her talented husband Chunky's career almost over (there seem to be no Bangladeshi films happening for him, either), wife Bhavna stands out with her resourceful contacts and amazing skills in event organisation. She often attracts contracts for the best dos in town.

Being a part of SRK and Gauri Khan's inner circle, she doubtless has access to some of the best names in celeb-dom.

Parveen Shahani

Visiting Card Reads: Teacher

The most low-key of the wives, Mrs Emraan Hashmi is a teacher by profession. However, word is that she left her job as a nursery teacher a few years ago.

After the Hashmis turned parents, Parveen has become a full-time mother. It seems she wishes to return to teaching but only when the little toddler grows up.
