Three Malayalam films gear up for release

Most of the high-profile films are waiting for the 'right season' to release, when viewers rush to the theatres. But a few medium budget projects are getting released in between. Here is a look at three of them.

Father's Day

Director: Kalavoor Ravikumar

Scenarist Kalavoor Ravikumar directs Father's Day, in which Oscar winner (for sound mixing in Slumdog Millionaire) Resul Pookkutty plays a cameo.

Revathy plays an unmarried English professor, Seethalakshmi. Then there are four men who are happily married, living in some other part of the town.

A young man Joseph, played by newcomer Shaheen, appears one day and reminds the rest of the characters about certain incidents that happened almost two decades ago. This takes the story forward.

Sankar, Suresh Krishna, Vijay Menon and Edavela Babu play the roles of the four men.  Lal, Vineeth, KPAC Lalitha and beauty pageant winner Indu Thampi are also part of the cast.

Tatsamayam Oru Penkutty

Nithya Menen plays the lead in director T K Rajeev Kumar's Tatsamayam Oru Penkutty.

Taking off from popular reality shows, the film has TV cameras following a woman through one day of her life. It monitors the attitude of society and the plight of women.

Unni Mukundan, regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Malayalam cinema after he replaced Prithviraj in Mallu Singh, plays the male lead.

Swetha Menon, Siddique, Suraj Venjarammoodu, Baburaj and KPAC Lalitha are part of the cast. The film is produced by Reel 2 Reel Cine Productions, with camera work by Vinod Illampilly and music by Sharath.

Ee Adutha Kaalathu

Director: Arunkumar Aravind

Film editor turned director, Arunkumar of Cocktail fame, connects the lives of people who lives in various corners of a city in Ee Adutha Kaalathu.

Actor and scenarist Murali Gopi has scripted the film, produced under the banner of Ragam Movies. The cinematographer is Shehnad Jalal and the music director is Gopi Sundar.

Indrajith plays a rough rag picker and Mythili plays his wife. Murali Gopi and Tanushree Ghosh play a couple who run a high-profile hospital and Anoop Menon does the role of a cop.

Ee Adutha Kaalathu
is takes the modern style of narration, that has given a fresh lease of life to Malayalam cinema, forward.
