Prashanth, who shot to fame in a double role in Shankar's Jeans opposite Aishwarya Rai, is making a coming back with the Tamil film Ponnar Sankar.

The movie is based on the book of the same name written by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M Karunanidhi in 1978.

Like in Jeans, Prashnath plays a double role in this historical story of two warrior brothers who lived many centuries ago.

Prashath's father, actor-producer and director Thiagarajan directs the film.

Prashanth's last film was Shock, the Tamil remake of Ram Gopal Varma's Bhoot. He has just finished acting in his father's production, Malaiyur Mambattiyan which was the remake of Thiagarajan's film of the same name.

Perhaps for the first time, a father is directing the son in the same role that he had enacted 25 years ago. The film which has been in the making for a long time, is expected to release shortly

The pre-production of Ponnar Sankar took almost a whole year. The grand muhurat was held in 2009, at Valluvar Kottam in Chennai. The Chief minister switched on the camera that day.

A massive township was built with temple, lake and palaces inside Valluvar Kottam.
