PIX: Meet the Stylish Couples of Southern Cinema

Dhanush and Aishwarya

Kodambakkam, a residential neighbourhood in Chennai, was stunned when Dhanush announced his engagement. It wasn't just the fact that he was only 21; the bride was superstar Rajnikanth's eldest daughter, Aishwarya, who was slightly older than Dhanush.

The marriage happened in a jiffy in 2004, the joining of two prominent families.

Since then, their profile has increased steadily, as Dhanush went on to deliver blockbusters and win a National Award. Why This Kolaveri Di? a song from their latest film, 3, has gone viral, cementing their status in Tamil cinema.

The couple recently exchanged platinum love bands of the 'Soulmates Collection' at a jewellery store in Chennai.

"It was the most special day of our life when we realised true love for each other and decided to tie the knot. Platinum is one such metal which just brightens the celebration of true love. We would like to mark this special moment when we discovered true love with beautiful platinum love bands of the Soulmates," Aishwarya said.

They have two sons, Yatra and Linga.

Suriya and Jyothika

He was Tamil cinema's reigning heart-throb and brought six packs into fashion; she was the queen of the marquee, and had acted with everyone from Rajnikanth to Kamal Haasan.

Their romance began as early as their first movie together, and culminated in 2006, with their marriage.

Suriya's career has gone from strength to strength while Jyothika has remained in the background, the dutiful wife and mother, although she has appeared in some ads with her star-husband.

The couple has two children, daughter Diya and son Dev.

Dileep and Manju Warrier

These two talented and versatile Malayalam artistes met and fell in love with each other when they worked together in films.

After their marriage in 1998, Dileep went on to scale greater heights. Manju, a sensitive artiste, gave up her acting career, much to the disappointment of her fans.

They have a daughter, Meenakshi.

Mahesh Babu and Namrata

For Mahesh Babu, son of Telugu star Krishna, stardom was written on the cards. Namrata was a Bollywood actress and Miss India 1993. The two met during the filming of the Telugu movie Vamsi.

The romance played out over five years. They married in 2005 and have a son, Gautam.

Ajith and Shalini

For Ajith's many fans, who fondly called him Thala, no girl could possibly be good enough. But when he finally made his choice, they were delighted. He tied the knot with Shalini, a talented child artiste who went on to become a heroine of repute.

Still, their romance was a pleasant shock to many, following their turn in Saran's Amarkkalam.

They married in 2000 and have a daughter, Anoushka.

Vijay and Sangeetha

Unlike his many on-screen avatars, Ilaya Thalapathi Vijay chose to follow a traditional route when it came to marriage. In London for treatment of a spine injury, he and his family met Sangeetha and her family, and an alliance was formed at once.

The couple was married in 1999 and has a son, Jason Sanjay, and daughter, Divya Saasha.


Prithviraj and Supriya Menon

A good deal of suspense surrounded this Malayalam star's marriage as he had said in interviews that marriage was the last thing on his mind. He then went and got married right away to a young journalist, Supriya.

The ceremony in April 2011 was very hush-hush, but since then, life seems to have been on a fairly even keel for this couple.

Ram Charan and Upasana

The son of Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi was among the most eligible bachelors in the state. He got engaged to Upasana Kamineni, who comes from the family that owns the Apollo Group.

The two had known each other for a long time, and finding themselves on the same wavelength, got engaged earlier this month.

Nagarjuna and Amala

The golden couple of Telugu cinema, Nagarjuna and Amala found true love during their careers, married in 1992, and have stayed very much the romantic couple ever since.

Together, they manage both the professional and personal sides of their lives with elan.

They have a son, Akhil.
