Mammootty, who has proved he has a penchant for comedy with super hit films like Rajamanikyam and Thuruppugulan, is all set to make viewers laugh once again with Cobra releasing on April 12 in time for Vishu.

The film has been written and directed by Lal, who also plays a leading role along with the superstar.

"We play twin brothers, who are not identical. It has been my great wish to direct Mammootty and it is even more delightful this time as I am sharing the frame with him," says Lal.

According to Lal, Cobra is about the wonderful relationship that the two share.

"Mammootty is Raja, which is actually the short form for Rajavembala, and my character is called Kari, the short form for Karimoorkhan. Their relatives have the feeling that Kari could have been someone else's kid because of an incident that happened at the hospital at the time of their birth. They try to instill this thought in their minds but that doesn't stop Raja and Kari from becoming even closer to each other," explains Lal.

They decide to marry siblings Sherly (Padmapriya) and Annie (Kaniha), as they can then become 'co-brothers'.

Mammootty, who has been going through a rough patch in his career with hits eluding him for some time now, will be keen to have this comedy accepted by audiences this Vishu season.

Lal, who became hot property after the success of Salt N' Pepper, in which he played the lead role, has turned down several offers in order to make Cobra.

Padmapriya is looking to win back her past glory in Malayalam cinema and Kaniha is enjoying her success in films, especially after her marriage.

Cobra is produced by Anto Joseph under the banner of Emperor Cinema. The cinematographer is Venu. Lyrics are by Santhosh Varma  and the music has been composed by Alex Paul.
