Other than the much hyped Kerala Cafe, the other Malayalam film releasing on October 29 is Uttara Swayamvaram.

After Shakespeare MA (Malayalam), Jayasurya and Roma are teaming up again in debutant director Ramakanth Sarju's film. It's a romantic story set in a village in Palakkad where Prakashan (Jayasurya) is madly in love with Uthara (Roma).

"My character, Prakashan, is an easy going guy who is virtually doing nothing in life other than dreaming about this girl called Uthara," says Jayasurya about the storyline.

"He belongs to an average household and his father runs a grocery shop, while the girl belongs to a rich family. As he had saved the girl from an abandoned well during their school days, Prakashan thinks it is reason enough for her to love him. But the sad part is that she is not even aware of his feelings," adds Jayasurya.

The director, who has been an assistant to Hariharan and Anil-Babu earlier, says, "There is some freshness about the way we are narrating this tale.

"Prakashan's father, Sreedhara Kurup (Balachandra Menon), has great plans about his son's future but the boy never lives up to those dreams. He lives in a fantasy world. His sister Ambily (played by Varada, the heroine of Sulthan) knows of Prakashan's dreams. Sometime later, Uthara is all set get engaged to a boy from an affluent household. But certain dramatic twists happen resulting in Prakashan's marriage to Uthara. However, his happiness doesn't last long, and this forms the suspense in the story," Ramakanth says.

Jayasurya says that, "though we have heard similar stories before, this film will have a different treatment. Like my character, who indeed is a likeable guy, is trying to woo the girl all the time. He even asks their driver to take leave so that he can go in his place. He is doing all these things to get her attention."

Says Roma of her role in the movie, "My character, Uthara, is the scion of a rich business group. Her mother had died when she was around two-years-old and her father, Ponnuveettil Mahadevan (Lalu Alex) treats her like a princess. He listens to her before taking crucial decisions. She is never really aware of Prakashan's dreams until a crucial juncture in the story."

Uthara Swayamvaram is being produced by Santosh Pavithram while cinematography is by Saloo George, lyrics by Gireesh Puthanchery and music by M Jayachandran.
