Comedian Sharan's 100th film
Kannada film Rambo is releasing this Friday across Karnataka. Popular comedian Sharan is both producer and hero in this his 100th film.
He had followed his sister Shruthi into cinema rather reluctantly. Sharan took the life-changing decision to produce the film because he felt that he wanted to keep intact the script that had been narrated to him.
Says Sharan, "It is a sheer co-incidence that I am playing a hero in my 100th film and it was the team's decision to cast me as one.
"All that I can say is that there is no heroism in the movie and I play a comedian's role with some emotional scenes thrown in. As an artiste I would like to do a variety of roles that will help me round off as a performer."
Sharan says the film is a situational comedy and is based on a story by M S Srinath from Tamil cinema who is also the film's director.
Rambo is co-produced by Atlanta Nagendra, a non-resident Indian who had earlier produced Joke Falls, a comic film that starred Ramesh Aravind.
Madhuri Itagi: It was great working with the Rambo team
While Tabla Nani plays actress Umashri's brother in the movie, Shruthi, who is known as the sob-queen for her emotional roles, plays a serious role but one that does not require her to weep.
Sharan is paired opposite Madhuri Itagi, who won the Miss Karnataka 2011 crown.
Says Madhuri, "I have to say that the team of Rambo was professional and passionate and so it was very nice working as part of this team. They gave me a lot of space to improvise and better my performance."
Sharan: We had absolute faith in the script
Sharan says the script demanded a bit of extra spending. "We had complete faith and trust in the script that we heard. We are confident that audiences will accept this film."
The film is a thriller-comedy and promises complete entertainment, according to Sharan.
"I will continue to entertain and make people laugh in this film. I am also confident that audiences, including my well-wishers and fans, will not be let down when they watch Sharan and his style of comedy. I am expecting positive feedback from the audiences for this movie," he says.
Madhuri: I play a homeless, middle class girl in the film
Mane Tanka Baare, a song in the movie which has been composed by Arjun Janya has caught the imagination of young listeners.
Madhuri, who made her debut when she was 17 in Satya, had her first release in Tenali Rama. She has acted in Tamil films Viruthagiri and Tharagu besides a few Kannada films such as Chickpete Saachagalu, Appu Pappu and Marujanma.
Says she, "I play a homely middle-class girl. It is a serious type of role and I get to do a contrasting glamorous number in the movie. My role is that of a disciplined girl who is not taken seriously by the hero."
The film is co-directed by actor Tarun Sudhir, who is also the son of the veteran actor, the late Sudhir.
S Krishna of Mungaaru Male fame is the cinematographer.
