Prajwal Devaraj, young and upcoming actor of Kannada cinema, is going to have his first release of 2012.

He is pitted opposite three heroines--Radhika Pandit, Haripriya and Sanjjanaa in this Friday's release, Sagar.

Flush with the success of his last film Bhadra, which was an action film, Prajwal Devaraj is ready to entertain cine-goers with Sagar.

In this interview with Srikanth Srinivasa, Prajwal talks about the film Sagar and his forthcoming films.

How different is Sagar from your earlier movies?

After the success of my last film Bhadra, I needed a film like this to cement my place, and also take me a step further. There were two heroines in some of my earlier films. In Sagar, there are three heroines.

That apart, I play a guy who comes home from abroad. For the first time, I have worked with so many artistes. There were 20 to 25 artistes at any given time on the sets.

'I am doing another film also with M D Sridhar'

The film posters say that Sagar is a 'liar boy'. When does he lie?

Sagar (the name of his character in the film) is part of a huge joint family that believes in getting boys and girls married within the family circle.

The family fixes his marriage with his uncle's daughter. Sagar is okay with the idea, but wants some time to settle down. He talks to the girl, who has been like a friend since childhood, to know if they can take the next step. They try to fall in love. But, sparks don't fly.

With the help of his friend, he tries to escape from the marriage. He lies to the family that he has a girlfriend abroad who comes home all of a sudden.

What was it like working in a big production banner such as Ramu Enterprises and with director M D Sridhar?

I can relate to them very well. I have known Ramu and Malashri since childhood. My father had worked in their films.

On the sets, producer Ramu is very professional. People come to see films made under his banner because they have good production values. He has his audience.

I am doing another film also with M D Sridhar. When I met him for the first time with my father on the sets of Chellata, he had suggested to my father that I should also get into acting.

My father wanted me to finish my studies. Initially, I was not comfortable when I went on the sets of Sagar. Before every shot, he used to discuss the scenes with me and made me feel comfortable.

Will Sagar be another action film like Bhadra?

No. Sagar is a complete entertainment package. There are three fights. There is comedy and a wonderful triangular love story. People of all ages can enjoy this movie.

How do you feel about the success of Bhadra?

The success of Bhadra has given me confidence and new vigour. I am getting more offers than before.

Bhadra is actually the turning point in my career thanks to director Mahesh Rao and the entire team.

'I have started work on Jiddi'

Wasn't there a brief lull in your career?

Yes. During the making of Superman, theproducer and director had a tiff before parting ways. The film was shelved.

I started work on Sunil Kumar Desai's Sarigama and the director fell ill. The film got stuck. There was a lull for about seven or eight months when two films that had started simultaneously, stopped.

I took off with Murali Meets Meera, which has one of my best performances. The film didn't do well although the songs were picturised well and became chartbusters. Murali meets Meera was not promoted well. People who saw the film liked it, but they were few in number.

Which movies are you currently involved in?

After Sagar, Gokula Krishna is ready for release.

There's an absolute comedy film, Super Shastri, coming up, and then Galaate will release.

I have started work on Jiddi with director Anantharaju. I am paired opposite Aindrita Ray. I will start work on Dil Ka Raja in which there is Ramya.

There are no clashes between the releases because we wouldn't want to kill our own movies.
