'Don't judge me by one film'

Though her debut movie, Luck tanked at the box office, Shruti Haasan is on top of the world.

One reason is that she recently bagged a Walt Disney film -- and a Telugu one at that.

The untitled film also stars Siddharth of Rang De Basanti fame. It's an adventure film that centres around the fictitious land of Sangarashtra.

The story focuses on the journey of a nine-year-old gypsy (Hrishitha) with special healing powers and her quest to save Sangarashtra from the tyranny of an evil queen, played by Lakshmi Manchu.

Shruti will also be making her debut in Tamil film along with Suriya to be directed by the Ghajini director A R Murugadoss.

Recently she also composed the music for a Tamil film Unnaipol Oruvan.

Shruti spoke to Rediff.com about her character in the film and more.

How excited are you about doing this untitled Telugu film for Walt Disney? When you think of Disney, do you think of your childhood?

Disney is not about childhood memories alone. It is one of the companies that has crossed boundaries and created films which are not only for children. And, it is a wonderful feeling to do a film for them.

What went through your mind when you were approached for this role?

When director Prakash approached me, I was happy because it was a fabulous script. I liked my character very much. I felt that he was the director who could put this film across. And now that Disney has become a part of the project, it's become more exciting.

As a child, which were you favourite Disney characters?

I loved Aladdin and Jasmine. It was an awesome movie.

You are multi-talented; a musician and then an actor...

I am not trying to be an astronaut or the world's best chef. I am here to be a performer. And I am finding ways of expressing myself in various creative ways as an artist.

Some people believe you are a better musician than an actor. Your comment?

I have just done one film, so please don't judge me by that standard. Having said that, I am glad that people loved my music because it means a lot to me.

What is your role in the film?

I am playing a gypsy in the film. The role is exciting but I cannot reveal much about it at the moment.

Are you shifting to the South or do you want to live in Mumbai?

I am living in Mumbai right now. But it does not matter where you are located. In this project, content is what matters, not language.

I would love to be a part of good cinema anywhere in the world.
