Get your lowdown on what's going on in the world of Hollywood.

Oscar-winning actor Robin Williams cut his wrist before hanging himself with a belt, according to reports.

The 63-year-old funnyman was found dead on August 11 in his home in San Fransisco, California.

Marin County Sheriff's Lieutenant Keith Boyd revealed that they discovered several cuts on Williams' left wrist and a pocket knife with a dried red substance at the scene, reported Ace Showbiz.

"Mr Williams' personal assistant was able to gain access to Mr Williams' bedroom and entered the bedroom to find him clothed in a seated position, unresponsive, with a belt secured around his neck with the other end of the (belt) wedged between the... Closet door and the door frame. His right shoulder area was touching the door with his body perpendicular to the door and slightly suspended," Boyd said.

The Good Will Hunting star's final cause of death would be known in several weeks after toxicology tests are completed.

Boyd added, "The forensic examination conducted by Dr Joseph Cohen did not (indicate)... That Mr Williams had been in a struggle prior to him being diseased."

According to the Marin County Sheriff's Department, Williams was last seen alive around 10 pm on August 10 by his wife Susan Schneider.

She didn't know about his later condition because they slept in different bedrooms. In the next morning around 10:30 am, Schneider left their home to run errands, thinking that her husband was still asleep.

Willaims' neighbours have revealed that he was battling depression and was tormented by cash problems before he committed suicide.

Sources revealed that he was in misery at having to return to TV at the age of 63 and signing films that he didn’t want to do, because he was cash strapped as his two divorces had cost him 20 million pounds, the Mirror reported.

They added that he looked terrible and just a shadow of his former self, as he had lost all his weight and look exceptionally gaunt, a few days before he took his own life.

The estate of her first husband Humphrey Bogart, who starred with her in a series of classic movies, confirmed the news on Twitter.

"With deep sorrow, yet with great gratitude for her amazing life, we confirm the passing of Lauren Bacall," the Bogart estate tweeted.

Born Betty Joan Perske on September 16, 1924 in the Bronx, the actress had 72 film credits to her name. She began taking modelling and acting classes as a teen, and landed several walk-on roles in theater.

Bacall received her only Academy Award nomination for her supporting role in the 1996 film The Mirror Has Two Faces, where she played Barbara Streisand's mother.

She won two Tony Awards for her stage performances and received the Cecil B DeMille Award for Career Achievement from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in 1992.
