Rajul Hegde in Mumbai

Aditi Rao Hydari has mostly played demure, girl-next-door characters in her films so far. Now, she will be seen in her first sensuous role in Vishesh Bhatt's Murder 3.

The Yeh Saali Zindagi actress plays an interior designer, Roshni, in the forthcoming thriller, an official remake of Spanish film The Hidden Face

Murder 3 also stars the gorgeous Sara Loren and Randeep Hooda.

Aditi talks to Rajul Hegde about her the new role and the opportunity it gives her to explore her sensual side.

Is Murder 3 an erotic film?

Murder 3 is about relationships, it's not just about sex. There is a lot more to it. It is a thriller with elements of love, celebration and mystery.

Erotica is a part of life and it's natural. It is beautifully presented in this film.

How do you define love?

Love is magic. It gives me strength. To me, it's a combination of trust and understanding. It is putting the other person before you.

If you love someone, you need to give yourself emotionally and physically to the person in a way that is not deceitful to yourself and the other.

Is the bold avatar in the film an attempt to break the girl-next- door image?

I can be sweet-looking and innocent but I may have a sensual side to me too, and Murder 3 gets me to explore this mysterious and sensual side of me.

As an actor, it is fun to explore a different side.

Do you feel the pressure being part of the project because Murder and Murder 2 were successful and there are bound to be comparisons with their actresses?

No pressure at all, but there is joy and excitement. I think everyone has his or her own choices. I think there is far more to sexuality. This film is about feelings and soul.

You need to have some steel in your soul and not silicon in your boobs to be somebody of substance.

I truly believe in it and am not taking on any one.

'I am comfortable with my body'

There are quite a few sexy scenes in the film. How comfortable were you shooting those scenes?

You have to be honest to your character and be intimate with someone is nice. I have done that in Yeh Saali Zindagi. I think it's better to be honest than hide.

While shooting such scenes, I prefer that there are not too many people around because things might just slip.

I am comfortable with my body because I am a dancer.

You are a trained dancer but you haven't danced much in any of your films.

I don't know why nobody gives me a chance to dance. I have been dancing from the age of five and the moment I start performing, the self-consciousness dies out. Nothing comes between my audience and me.

I think that's why I am an actor, because I like performing. Dancing helps you to quickly shift expressions. I am sure it helps me in acting too.

Mahesh Bhatt has compared you to the actress Nutan.

Bhattji very kindly compared me to Nutan and I was shocked because he said it during a press conference.

Nutan had the right mix of grace and dignity. She was beautiful in a classic way, a fantastic actor, and had the childish naughtiness in her eyes.

Goldie Behl (producer) had also said the same thing during London Paris New York. He said stay on the same path and don't try to be somebody else.

But the compliment coming from Bhattji was a very big thing for me. It is a very tall name to live up to (smiles).

What was your equation with your costars Randeep Hooda and Sara Loren?

It was fun. Sara has a lot of work experience with Pakistani TV, has a different kind of energy, and is very straightforward.

Randeep looks scary but is loving, encouraging, and makes you think too. He is a good actor and I would love to work with him again.

How was it working with Vishesh Films?

I am very grateful to Mukesh Bhatt, Vishesh Bhatt (director) and Mahesh Bhatt for considering me for this film. I had never imagined even in my wildest dreams that I would work with them.

Having worked with them, I know how cool they are and also think out-of-the box. They have taken me for what I bring to the film.

I have a certain kind of face and everyone has their sensual side and they allowed me to explore that. I love them for that.
