It's that time of the year again. Holi, the festival of colours and camaraderie, is upon us. This is also the time when music cassettes and CDs of film songs about Holi are dusted off and played for revelers.

Holi songs never go out of trend in Hindi films, and remains the most celebrated festival in Bollywood. It has served as a backdrop for merriment and interesting twists in the stories. Here, we take a look at some of the popular Holi songs over the decades.

Check out the songs, and vote for your favourite Holi number at the end of the slide show.

Rang Barse, Silsila

One of the most popular Holi songs ever, the song is a lot of fun and a must-play. During the course of the song, Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha's characters flirt outrageously on the dance floor while their respective spouses (Jaya Bachchan and Sanjeev Kumar) look on with embarrassment.

Ang Se Ang Lagana, Darr

Another one from Yash Chopra camp, the Holi sequence in Darr had Juhi Chawla, Sunny Deol, Anupam Kher and Tanvi Azmi dancing to the festive tunes while the obsessive lover Shah Rukh Khan gatecrashes, with face smeared in colour so that no one recognises him.

Aaj Na Chhodenge Bas Humjoli, Kati Patang

In Shakti Samanta's Kati Patang, the widow Asha Parekh's sombre Apni Apni Kismat Hai Yeh Koi Hanse Koi Roye stands in direct conflict with Rajesh Khanna's jovial Aaj Na Chhodenge Bas Humjoli.

At the end of the song sequence, to Asha Parekh's dismay, Khanna sprays some colour on her, going totally against tradition.

Do Me A Favour, Waqt: Race Against Time

This song from Waqt: Race Against Time is young and playful in spirit. Akshay Kumar is at his mischievous best and along with Priyanka Chopra, enjoys the festival with abandon.

Holi Khele Raghubira, Baghban

Big B gets into the Holi groove once again and serenades the gorgeous Hema Malini, who's plays his wife in the film.

The couple has a lot of fun with their family and friends, and dance on this foot tapping number from Baghbaan

Soni Soni Ankhiyon Wali, Mohabbatein

Shah Rukh Khan takes center stage in this Holi sequence from Mohabbatein.

The actor, who plays a teacher encourages his students -- played by Jugal Hansraj, Jimmy Shergil and Uday Chopra -- to play Holi with the girls and keeps mentoring them throughout.

Holi Aayi Re Kanhai, Mother India

A film that celebrates womanhood, Mother India saw Rajendra Kumar and Sunil Dutt get into Holi mode in the song Holi Aayi Re Kanhai, as their mother Nargis Dutt gets into a nostalgic mood.

Being one of the oldest songs in Bollywood, it still instantly invokes that festive feeling in all of us.

Jali Toh Bujhi Na, Action Replayy

The Bachchan bahu hasn't lagged behind, as she danced her way to the fast and peppy number Jali toh bujhi na from the rather forgettable movie Action Replayy.

The song marked her entry in the movie as she, along with Neha Dhupia, added a lot of fun and frolick to the song.

Are Jaa Re Hat Natkhat, Navrang

Only filmmaker V Shantaram could have visualised something so extraordinary.

A song with the classical touch, it still remains one of the most memorable and best Holi songs. The magnificently shot sequence where Sandhya's danced gracefully both as a boy and girl is the highlight of the song.

Holi Re, Mangal Pandey: The Rising

Aamir Khan joined the bandwagon as he tried to woo Rani Mukerji by flirting with her under the influence of bhang, in Ketan Mehta's Mangal Pandey: The Rising

With music by A R Rahman and partly sung by Aamir Khan, Holi Re was a truly delightful track coupled with beautiful visuals.
