This week's new Malayalam release, The Train, directed by the National award winning director, Jayaraj, is based on the Mumbai train bombings. Mammootty plays the lead.

Jayasurya, who is a part of the film, has another release this Friday: Janapriyan, directed by Boban Samuel.

Here is a look at both the films.

Mammootty and Jayasurya are coming together in Jayaraj's The Train, which will hit theatres this weekend. It's a thriller based on the Mumbai chain bomb blasts that rocked the city on July 11, 2006.

Mammootty plays Kedarnath, a Commander of the Anti Terrorist Squad. Aanchal Sabharwal, Jagathy Sreekumar, Sheena, Abhimanyu, Sabitha Jayaraj, Anupam Kher, Balaji and Padmakumar form the rest of the cast.

The camera is being handled by debutant cinematographer Seenu Murukkumpuzha. Vivek Harshan is the editor. Lyrics by Rafeeq Ahmed and Jayaraj have been composed by Sreenivas. Jayesh Kuttamath is producing the film under the banner Harvest Dreams Pvt. Ltd.

"Tremendous effort has gone into the making of this film," says director Jayaraj. "It was quite exciting to shoot the film in the crowded Mumbai railway stations."

Mammootty has gone on record to say that it was quite a unique experience shooting for the film in Mumbai. His family in the story gets killed in the terrorist attack.

Jayasurya plays a musician named Karthik, who is on cloud nine as he is on his way to sing for A R Rahman.

Jayasurya plays the hero in debutant director Boban Samuel's Janapriyan, scripted by Krishna Poojappura. The film, produced under the banner of Spotlight Visions, is a family entertainer.

Priyadarsan (Jayasurya) comes with a lot of dreams from a village to Kochi. He manages a temporary job in a government office, in the leave vacancy of Vyshakhan (Manoj K Jayan).

Sometime later, when Vysakhan, an arrogant man who is trying to direct a film, decides to rejoin the duty, Priyadarsan is at the risk of losing his job. He begs Vyshakhan to extent the leave but has to face a rather tough demand.

'My character talks a bit too much'

Jayasurya says, "My character is a nice guy, who is really sincere about his job. But he talks a bit too much and soon becomes very popular in his office."

He adds, "He wants to find a girl from a poor background as he believes only such persons will respect others. But the girl he eventually falls in love with (played by Bhama) belongs to a wealthy household."
