Sonakshi: I am not open to wearing a bikini

Sonakshi Sinha may be just a film old but her confidence speaks volumes of how far the actress will go in her career.

She already has as many as five movies coming up for release this year -- Rowdy Rathore, Joker, Son Of Sardar, Dabangg-2 and Lootera.

The promotions for Rowdy Rathore are on in full swing, and these days, Sonakshi rarely leaves her co-star Akshay Kumar's side.

Directed by Prabhu Deva, Rowdy Rathore will release on June 1.

Sonakshi shared her filmi experiences so far with Sonil Dedhia, and revealed some interesting details about herself.

It's a year-and-half since your first and only film Dabangg released. Was this long break intentional?

I don't think anything has been intentional in my life. I was studying fashion designing but went on to become an actor. It is just a coincidence. I was signing films and things started getting busy.

I have no complaints -- I am busy shooting for films and am also busy with advertisements and shows.

Work-wise, it is has been a good year-and-a-half for me.

You have five films (Rowdy Rathore, Joker, Son Of Sardar, Dabangg-2 and Lootera) in your kitty, making you busier than any of your contemporaries and even many seniors in the industry. How do you feel?

I feel blessed. I love what I do and I look forward to doing it every single day.

There are times when I have a gap of two days when I am doing nothing and I feel restless and always want to get back on the sets.

There are reports that you are unable to juggle between the multiple projects you have in hand. What's going on?

I am working on a lot of films together. There was a time I was simultaneously working on four films!

I am a very professional person. I allot particular dates to each film. I am not the kind of person to take away the dates that I have already given.

I try to be as professional I can so there's no reason for anybody to be upset.

You said you became an actor by chance. Would you credit it to Salman Khan?

Absolutely, yes. He encouraged me when I was studying fashion...he used to tell me leave all this and become an actress.

And I was like 'how can you see an actress in me?' He encouraged me to become fit and join the film industry. I will always be thankful to him.

You have a very desi look in Rowdy Rathore...

Yes, my character Paro is a very sweet and simple girl from Patna but at the same time, she is also masti khor (mischievous).

She comes to Mumbai and falls in love with a guy who is completely opposite her. The film is a nice love story, which also had a lot of drama and action.

Are you always on the lookout for 'girl next door' roles?

No. When filmmakers approach me with roles, I don't think that I am going to play an Indian girl or a western girl.

I have always selected films and roles that I believe in. 

I should fit into the character and I also make it a point to see that the audience would love to see me in a particular character.

Don't you fear being typecast?

No, I don't think so. When other actresses wear western clothes, I don't think anyone questions them nor are they typecast.

I like these characters that I have portrayed in the five films that are up for release. 

In spite of being in the same space they are different from each other. I get enough chance to wear western outfits in the commercials and shows that I do.

'I can't pull off a film like The Dirty Picture'

Would you be open to wearing a bikini?

No, I am not open to wearing a bikini on screen.

What about kissing and intimate scenes?

It is a complete no. I am not that kind of person. I have been brought up in a certain way.

I have certain restrictions that I follow. I don't see any reason to change because audiences have accepted me the way I am.

But a huge success like The Dirty Picture depended on these ingredients. Will you not do a film such as that if it was offered you?

I think it was a great film. Vidya Balan gave a stunning performance. I respect her so much as an actress.

 It takes guts to do something like that. I don't think I would be able to pull it off with the restrictions that I have.

'I have certain restrictions that I follow'

Both your films till now have been hero-oriented film. Don't you feel like doing a woman-centric film?

I still have a lot of time. My second film hasn't even released yet.

I am sure going forward I will get a lot of opportunities. I only sign a film if I feel it has a good script.

Among the younger lot of actors who would you like to work with?

I am already working with Ranveer Singh (in Lootera). My next film is with Imran Khan -- Once Upon A Time In Mumbai-2.

Would you want to work with new faces or first timers?

Yes, why not. Even I was a first timer once. The more opportunities you give people the better it is for the industry.

'It has been a good journey so far'

How do you think you have grown in the last two years?

I have spent a lot of time on the sets. What you learn on the sets by meeting so many people, discussing so many things with them, is the actual knowledge.

That is the way I have learnt a lot of things. I have learnt so much from Arbaaz Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Abhinav Kashyap... so it's been a good journey so far.

What are the things you've learnt from your father Shatrughan Sinha?

Well, he says if you can't be the best, just be different.

I think that's what he has followed throughout his career and he has stood out.
