Aamir: It's a great joy to be a father
Almost a month after Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao became the proud parents of a baby boy through IVF to a surrogate mother at a private clinic in Mumbai, the couple stepped out of the house on official business -- to launch the DVD of their film, Dhobi Ghaat.
Aamir looked excited as he said, "We can't get enough of (son) Azad. For the first time, Kiran has stepped out of the house since the baby was born and we are keen on getting back home soon."
When asked about how he spends time with his son, "I tickle up his little toes and then snuggle up to him. He is very small, so he does not know who I am. But he knows that somebody comes and troubles him everyday for two-three hours," said the 46-year-old actor.
He added, "It's a great joy to be a father. Both Kiran and I are really overjoyed about the baby being born. A baby is a miracle, nothing comes close to it."
The baby boy was born through IVF to a surrogate mother on December 1. He has been named Azad Rao Khan after his father's great granduncle and freedom fighter Maulana Azad.
This is the third time Khan has become father. He has a son named Junaid and a daughter named Ira from his first wife Reena.
'I want to fall in love with Kiran again on screen'
Dhobi Ghat, which released earlier this year, got a lot of critical acclaim. Directed by Kiran Rao, Khan played the role of a painter in the film.
The actor said he was looking forward to working with his wife again. Would he want to direct her someday? "I want to fall in love with Kiran again on screen," Aamir replied. "I would love to direct her. She is a better actor than me. I hope we get to see her on the Indian screen in a film or a theatre or play. I have told her so many times that she is very talented and that she must act."
However, Rao isn't keen on acting in films. She explains, "I used to act during my school and college days. I am not particularly interested now. But I want to make films. I would love to do theatre."
Meanwhile, Aamir is busy with Reema Kagti's film, tentatively titled Talaash, which is expected to release in April. "I play a police officer in that. It's a crime-action film. We are shooting at locations that have never been explored before. You will get to see a new face of Mumbai," he says.
The actor is also keen to write an autobiography. "Whatever experience I gained from my life, my personal relations, industry and career, I would like to put it into my autobiography. But it's going to be a difficult task," he says.
