He loves sketching, and he loves actors and actresses.
 
So, 25-year-old Naveen Kumar Singh combined his two passions and sketches all those tinseltown people he has enjoyed watching on the big screen.

"Sketching is my hobby, and I haven't learnt it from anywhere. I've been doing sketches since I was in the fifth standard. I would look at photos and try to sketch them. Initially, they were not good but with practice, I started doing a good enough job. Now I can sketch a person within 15 minutes."

"When I see a movie or I like an actor, they become my subject for sketching. Recently I saw The Dirty Picture and loved it so I sketched Vidya Balan in Dirty Picture. When you like a film, you automatically like the actors and actresses in that film too," Naveen says.

Naveen Kumar is a huge fan of Madhuri Dixit; he loves all her films but he loves best those films where she is paired with Shah Rukh Khan such as Devdas, Hum Tumhare Hai Sanam, Dil Toh Pagal Hai, and Anjaam.

'I love MF Husain's paintings but I don't copy them'

He also draws landscapes and abstracts. He paints too but since it takes a lot of time, he rarely does so.

"In sketches, you can see the result in 15 minutes, but in painting, you have to wait long, I don't have that much patience," he says frankly.

'It is difficult to get time to do an exhibition'

He's never had an exhibition of his work.

Born in Banaras, Naveen Kumar studied in Kanpur and is doing his M Tech from the Harcourt Butler Technological Institute, Kanpur.
 
His father, a senior bank manager, passed away in 2006, and his mother is a housewife.

He has four sisters, and one younger brother. They are all studying, except for his married sister. The family's only source of income is his father's pension.

'I did not think of making sketching portraits my profession'

So sketching is not really a career option.

"I did not think of making sketching portraits my profession but my last MTech exam is over and I am thinking of doing MDes (Master in Design) from IIT," he says.

'I will design products, maybe cars and bikes'

"It is a two-year course. I have passed the qualifying round and have to go through an interview next. If I get admission then I can put my art to better use. I will design products, maybe cars and bikes, and my creativity and talent will be used in that field," he says.
