'Focus on Sonam's bikini in Bewakoofiyaan is disappointing'

Sonam Kapoor's newest film has been overshadowed by an outfit.

Nupur Asthana-directed Bewakoofiyaan, set to hit screens this Friday, March 14, has a scene in which the lead actress is seen lounging by a pool wearing a teensy bikini.

Director Asthana says she feels disappointed that people are only talking about the bikini.

Sonam had said a few years ago that she would never wear a bikini as she does not have a perfect body to carry it off.

"It is disappointing that people are talking about it (bikini scene) only... the focus is on that. There are other things too in the promo to look for. I am sure when people will see the film they will understand the relevance of it (bikini scene) and get to see a lovely film," Nupur said.

Nupur insists the 'bikini and kissing' shot has not been added to merely grab eyeballs.

"For the lovers who are dating for two years or so, it is natural to get close. As for the bikini scene, the couple, along with their friends goes to a resort so it is obvious for her (Sonam) to wear it," she said.

"We are showing a real girl and not a supermodel wearing a bikini. It is there just for seconds in the film," she added.

This is the second directorial venture of Nupur after Mujhse Fraandship Karoge (2011). She is excited as well as anxious for Bewakoofiyaan.

"The story was written by Habib Faisal and I just loved the idea of a love story in times of recession. It hasn't been attempted earlier. We did make certain changes to the storyline to make it more entertaining for the audience," Nupur said.

Nupur said the thought of the unusual pairing of Sonam and Ayushmann was always there and she is glad that she could get both the actors to star in the film.

"It was relatively easy to get them (Sonam and Ayushmann) on board for this film. Both understood the plot well and their characters. The film has a story which is relatable not only for lovers, but their families as well," she added.

Socialite Bina Ramani's life might have been a roller coaster ride from being a fashion designer, a restaurateur and even an entrepreneur to being a witness in the Jessica Lal murder case, but the only regret she has is of not marrying actor Shammi Kapoor, whom she claims to have had a tumultuous affair with.

"I wish I had married Shammi Kapoor then. I regret marrying my first husband, Andy Ramani and moving to San Fransisco" Ramani said in her recent autobiography.

Ramani has candidly written about her romance with Shammi Kapoor which "was doomed to die before it blossomed" in her recent autobiography titled Bird in a Banyan Tree-My Story.

"I was introduced to Shammi by Raj Kapoor's wife, Krishnaji, ten months after his wife died of a sudden illness leaving him in an inconsolable state with his two children. While his film career as an actor was at its peak, he was very lonely in his personal life and was becoming increasingly reckless in his behaviour," Ramani, who was in conversation with Suhel Seth at an Oxford Store in New Delhi recently, said.

"Soon enough, Shammi was openly displaying his growing affection for me and, usually with Bhabhiji's help, managed to find many occasions where we could either meet in private or 'run into each other" publicly, she said.

However, their romance didn't blossom into marriage, because of Raj Kapoor's opposition towards the match, claims Ramani.

"My parents weren't comfortable too as the thought of losing their daughter to a movie star with a terrible reputation for 'drinking' and 'womanising' was alarming. I had plans of eloping with Shammi, when my parents introduced me to Andy while Shammi was away on a seven-day tour," she added.
