Family, friends, fans at Amy Winehouse's funeral

The late British singer Amy Winehouse was cremated at Edgwarebury Cemetery in north London shortly after a private traditional Jewish funeral service on Tuesday.

Close family and friends paid their last respects to the singer with prayers, tears, laughter and song, reports CBS News.

Celebrities, including musician/producer Mark Ronson, who co-produced her breakthrough album Back to Black and media personality Kelly Osbourne, were among several hundred mourners attending the service.

The Jewish service was led by a rabbi and included prayers in English and Hebrew and reminiscences from Winehouse's father, Mitch.

It ended with a rendition of Carole King's So Far Away, one of Winehouse's favourite songs.

The Winehouse family is due to hold two days of shiva, a Jewish traditional period of mourning.

British filmmaker Reg Traviss was distraught upon learning of his former girlfriend's demise.

Lady Gaga has spoken out about Amy Winehouse's tragic death, insisting that it should serve as a warning to society to not 'kill the superstar'.

'It''s a lesson to the world. Don't kill the superstar, take care of her soul,' the Daily Mail quoted the 25-year-old Judas singer as saying.

Gaga said that while she did not personally know Winehouse, she loved her 'so much' and revealed that she used to get mistaken for the British soul icon before she became famous.

Speaking about Amy, who died on Saturday, Lady Gaga said: 'I was nobody when she was first coming out. I would be on the street and people would go 'Amy'. I just remember feeling like I wasn''t alone because she was so different."

Seen here, is Janis Winehouse, Amy's mother, at the funeral. According to reports, Janis had an inkling of things to come when she said that she feared three years ago that her daughter won't make it past her 20s.
