There's something ethereal about a woman in a white sari. For decades, filmmakers in Bollywood have fired imaginations with their white sari-clad muses, be it Raj Kapoor or Yash Chopra.

Off screen too, Bollywood actresses have worn white at various occasions and events and pulled it off too, to say the least. Here's looking at some of these sari-clad beauties who have whipped up impeccable appearances in white and made heads turn.

Bipasha Basu

Sari appearances may be a bit of a rarity in Bips' case but she totally works the look whenever she goes the whole nine yards.

So it's no surprise that designers Rocky S and Queenie asked the actress to walk the ramp in this white sari on the first day of the Lakme India Fashion Week in Mumbai last year.

Vidya Balan should become the brand ambassador for Sabyasachi Mukherjee and his saris. She seems to have an unmistakable ability of picking out the best saris and accessorising with the most eye-catching statement jewellery.

On the cover of FHM magazine, the Ishqiya seductress brings sexy back with the quintessential sari. The white hue only adds to the whole effect. Whoever said you need to wear skimpy clothes to look hot had clearly not heard of the sari.

Mother of two, Karisma Kapoor has always had an enviable figure. And what better way to flaunt it than draped a sari?

The actress, who's long been planning a comeback, thought it best to give Italy a slice of Indian fashion as she attended the Jaeger Le Coultre Host Celebration Party in Venice during the 64th Venice Film Festival in 2007.
