Times are changing.

In the good old days, actresses just had to flash their gorgeous smiles or flutter their eyelashes, and they would become a rage.

These days, skin show rules.

Heroines like Aishwarya Rai and Kareena Kapoor started their careers fully covered up, but today, they like to show off their toned bodies.

We take a look at some of the actresses, and compare their dressing styles then and now.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

In her earliest films -- Iruvar and Aur Pyar Ho Gaya -- the camera would linger on Ash's coy smile and beautiful face.

Today, Ash has to show off her legs in films like Dhoom 2 and the most recent Endhiran, to stay in the spotlight.

Shilpa Shetty

Shilpa looked almost nerdy in her first film Baazigar, like her co-star Shah Rukh Khan.

After the initial taste of success, her films started flopping and Shilpa moved on to item numbers. With that, came the change in her wardrobe.

Shool's hot number Dilwalon Ke Dil Ka Karar Lootne made everyone notice another side to the actress.

Kareena Kapoor

Kareena played a Muslim village girl in her debut film Refugee, and wore only salwar kameezes.

The change in her wardrobe came almost immediately after that film, as Kareena switched on to a more stylish avatar in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

These days, the actress -- and her boyfriend Saif Ali Khan, as she claimed in a recent interview -- prefers a bikini.

Rani Mukerji

Rani's first film Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat saw her in a role no modern-day mainstream actress would like to debut in -- she played a married woman, who had been wronged by her husband. So, most of the film saw her in saris and tears.

Rani went on to do good 'acting' roles like Saathiya, Chalte Chalte, Black and many more, which did well at the box office.

When her films started flopping, however, Rani realised the need for change. She started losing her clothes, and even appearing in magazine covers in a bikini top.

Unfortunately, that did not revive Rani's career either.

Urmila Matondkar

When Urmila graduated from a child star to an adult actress, she played simple, girl-next-door roles in films like Narsimha, Chamatkar, Aa Gale Lag Ja and Satya.

Ram Gopal Varma gave her career a much-needed push, and the actress transformed herself in Rangeela.

Minnissh Lambha

Yahaan was a beautiful film, where Minissha played a simple Kashmiri girl. The film, however, did not do well.

So Minissha got into a bikini and took up bad films like Kidnap and Anthony Kaun Hai.

Amrita Rao

Even though Amrita Rao's first film Ab Ke Baras bombed, she got some interesting  films like Ishq Vishk, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Main Hoon Na and Vivah.

In all these films, Amrita looked the cute college girl, or the traditional girl.

The actress soon dumped her girl-next-door image and opted for a sexier look in My Name is Anthony Gonsalves.

It did not suit her, and the film flopped.

Preity Zinta

Her first film Dil Se saw her as a spunky but fully clad girl, about to get married to SRK's character.

The films that followed - Soldier, Sanghash, Kya Kehna and Mission Kashmir -- saw in her in unglamorous roles too.

But it all changed as she got older. In Har Dil Jo Pya Karega, we saw her dancing in a towel. She soon changed to tiny outfits in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Salaam Namaste.

Mahima Chaudhry

Her small-town girl look in Subhash Ghai's Pardes was a big hit. When the accolades and hits dried up, she moved on to low budget movies, and tiny outfits.

Karisma Kapoor

Karisma was very young when she made her debut in the movies. Her clothes in her early films Jigar, Jaagrutti and Anari were mostly traditional.

Later, she started looking hot, and sang about it too in Baby Baby Baby Mujhe Log Bole (Khuddar).
