UTV Motion Pictures has acquired the rights of the Tamil film Muran written and directed by Rajan Madhav and produced by Cheran's Dream Theatres. The film stars Cheran and Prasanna. The music is scored by Sajjan Madhav. Rajan Madhav was a former associate of Mysskin.

Dhananjayan, Chief- South Film Business, UTV Motion Pictures said, "We were looking for good scripts and I was quite impressed with Muran. But at that time, we hadn't started our operations in the south. When it was 70 percent complete, we were shown the film and asked whether we were interested in taking over. We saw the film and loved the way it was made. I would say it is one of the finest action thrillers in Tamil cinema with brilliant direction by Rajan Madhav. UTV will complete the film and is planning to release it in June."

Muran, the first release from UTV Motion Pictures in Tamil this year, will be followed by the tentatively titled Erandam Ulagam, a film by Selvaraghavan with Dhanush in the lead.

Dhananjayan also said that UTV plans to release four Tamil films a year.

A scene from Raam

Six years have passed since Ameer made one of the most sensitive films on a mother-son relationship in Tamil, Raam. After Katrathu Thamizh, it was Jiiva's first film perhaps one of the best too.

It is interesting to note that even today Raam is making waves all around the world.

Recently, Raam was shown at Le-M e-Sur-Seine, Mirepoix-en-Ari ge in France also in Luxemburg with French subtitles. That meant, it was not for the Tamil audience but for the European audience that the film was shown. The screening will be followed by a lively debate.

When it was screened at the Cyprus International Film Festival in 2006, it won awards for Jiiva and Yuvan Shankar Raja.
