Nee Tata Naa Birla is ordinary

Last updated on: June 30, 2008 12:27 IST

Director Nagendra Magadi claimed that Naa Tata Nee Birla would be a full-length fun-filled thriller without a single dull moment. Well, even with a star-cast like Ravichandran, Jaggesh, Sadhu Kokila and Doddanna, the Kannada film falls flat. And partly to blame is the wayward script, which defies logic.

The director also claimed that he is the film's script writer though many of Naa Tata…'s sequences looked as if they have been lifted from Priyadarshan's Bollywood film Garam Masala and also David Dhawan's Haseena Maan Jaayegi.

The Ravichandran and Jaggesh combination was successful in films like Gadibidi Ganda and Ramakrishna. Both, however were remakes backed by sound scripts. To add to the woes of the director, even the reliable Guru Kiran has somehow faltered in his work.

Despite an array of well-known singers like Chitra, Malgudi Shubha, Rajesh Krishnan, Usha Uthup and many others, there is just one song that is appealing. Even the neat cinematographic work by Ramesh Babu cannot save this film.

The story goes like this: Ravi and Jaggu are the sons of a rich tycoon, who are prepared to do anything for money. The father kicks out these two irresponsible pranksters from his home by arranging a funny contract on their heads.

Meanwhile, two rich girls have to be loved and pampered by the no-gooders to get to a secret code. A series of incidents later, Ravi and Jaggu expose the designs of some villains.

Ravichandran's comedy timing is always perfect, and he shines in here too though the same cannot be said of a repetitious Jaggesh.

Jennifer and Pooja Gandhi are seen mostly in song and dance sequences. The other girls just come and go.

Only a fan of Ravichandran and Jaggesh will call this even a time pass film.
