After the astounding success of Veyil, Bharath and Bhavana are together again in Koodal Nagar. Sandhya, who acted with Bharath in her debut film Kadhal, completes the triangle in this double heroine film.
Directed by Seenu Ramasamy, the soundtrack comprises 6 compositions by Sabesh Murali of Thavamai Thavamirunthu fame.
The album begins with Tamil selvi Tamil selvi, which sounds like Pachai niramae pachai niramae from Alai Paayuthae. Thenmozhi Das' lyrics are fresh and meaningful -- describing the lovers' pledge of selfless love and eternal fidelity. The joyful number is rendered by Hariharan and Sadhana Sargam in an emotionally charged manner. Vibrant percussion and catchy cadence of instruments add fillip to the number. A part of the track is repeated on the reverse side.
Up next is Yaarathu yaarathu, a racy track with a strong undercurrent of melody. Invigorating percussion mixed with taala passages and melodious cadenza of keyboard, flute and guitar pep up the overall aesthetic quality of the number. The romantic duet is rendered with feeling by Haricharan and Swetha to the lyrics of Muthukumar.
Aayiram thalaiyaparthu by Tippu is a peppy track with a rustic feel to it. High-pressure percussion and lively rhythm, combined with strains of saxophone and guitar, are the highlights of this track.
Following this is Varrarayya varraru sung by Thulasidas. This folksy number has vehemence to it.
Following this is Kaalgal munnalae, a highly melodious number with a haunting feel to it. Chandre's soft, lilting voice convincingly conveys the pain and gloom in Pazhanibharathi's meaningful lyrics. The mellow refrain of the flute and guitar only adds to the wistfulness of the track.
The concluding track, Yakka nillukka is another racy number sung by Karthik in his usual ebullient fashion. It is a hip-hop combo with a bit of rap in between.
Overall, the album just doles out routine fare.
