Sathyavaan Saavithri is hilarious

July 02, 2007 16:33 IST

Ramesh Arvind's new Kannada film, Sathyavaan Saavithri, confirms that this talented actor is also a director of substance.

Ramesh's debut directorial venture Rama Shaama Bhaama was a runaway hit. The reasons for its success was attributed to Kamal Haasan, who had returned to Kannada cinema after nearly 18 years. But with Sathyavaan Saavithri, Ramesh proves that the success of his first film was not a flash in the pan, and that his films can be entertaining even without the presence of big stars.

Sathyavaan Saavithri is loosely based on the Hollywood film Cactus Flower, which was also made in Hindi. The way Ramesh has narrated the story makes it different from the rest. Besides, he has given it a local flavour, enabling Kannada viewers to identify with the characters.

Ramesh Arvind likes the director's cap

Ramesh has also been able to get the right cast like Anirudhdh, Komal and Mohan, who are very good at comedy.

Sathyavan is a dentist, who is a compulsive liar and flirt. He does not believe in marriage. Subbalakshmi, a traditional girl, works as his secretary in his clinic, and is in love with him. But Sathya has an eye for other girls. His grandfather sets a deadline for his marriage and threatens to donate his huge wealth to charity if Sathya does not get married. Sathya meets a girl called Monisha and wants to marry her. He tries to win her over by telling lies. As the drama unfolds, there is confusion, and a lot of laughs.

Ramesh Arvind dons serious avatar

Ramesh, as a comedy actor, has a big fan following. And he doesn't disappoint. Anirudhdh is hilarious every time he comes onscreen. After a long time, Mohan has a funny role. Komal is brilliant as usual.

Among the heroines, it is Daisy Bopanna who shines the most. She has already proved herself as an actress in films like Rama Shaama Bhaama and Aishwarya. But in Sathyavaan Saavithri, she goes several steps ahead. Jennifer looks glamorous. She gives one of her best performances till date. Daththanna is effective.

Sathyavaan Saavithri is an enjoyable fare for family audiences.
