Review: Main Tera Hero has dhamaal music!

March 17, 2014 16:15 IST

Nargis Fakhri and Varun Dhawan in Main Tera HeroThere are no dull moments in the Main Tera Hero soundtrack, promises Joginder Tuteja.

As is the case with the majority of soundtracks coming from the house of David Dhawan, one expects a dhamakedaar masala outing in Main Tera Hero as well.

With Sajid-Wajid on board, the intention is clear from the onset.

Kumaar is the man behind the dhamaal lyrics, but it is surprising to see Kausar Munir, usually associated with poetic lyrics, letting her hair down as well.

The songs compliment the stage and setting created by David Dhawan for his son.

First up, is the Kumaar written Besharmi Ki Height which has a Pritam-sque start to it. It reminds one of Tu Mera Hero from Rohit Dhawan's Desi Boyz. The arrangements seem made for clubs and discotheques.

The mood is western for this number which at its heart is inherently Indian. With electronic modulation coming into play, Benny Dayal and Shalmali Kholgade sound very different, but to good effect. No wonder, the remix version rocks too.

The height of the masala score is Palat - Tera Hero Idhar Hai. You wait for Govinda, Salman Khan and Karisma Kapoor to arrive out of nowhere. The song is vintage ’90s. It is delightful to see Sajid-Wajid just following the formula.

Purists may scoff at what this Kausar Munir song (with additional lyrics by Danish Sabri) has to offer, especially with Arijit Singh behind the mike. However, the song has catchy beats and a foot-tapping rhythm, and it scores there.

The mood continues with the Kumaar written Shanivaar Raati, another foot-tapping number with the ’90s feel and a Punjabi flavour in terms of mood and beats. Govinda will probably be itching to dance on this one.

Now Arijit Singh and Shalmali Kholgadi let their hair down for this fun number (with a 'remix version' too). It may not have long lasting appeal but will be noticed if it is supported by some fast-paced choreography.

Remember the signature beats of Tumse Milke Dil Ka Hai Jo Haal Kya Kare (from Main Tera Hero) which was itself inspired by Apni Toh Jaise Taise (Lawaaris)?

Well, those beats form the base for the entire four-minute duration of Galat Baat Hai where Neeti Mohan sings in the style Poornima had excelled in, in David Dhawan films in the past, such as Jab Tak Rahega Samose Mein Aaloo (Mr and Mrs Khiladi).

Along with Javed Ali, she appears in this Kausar Munir written number (with additional lyrics by Danish Sabri), which is fun while it plays.

The Main Tera Hero soundtrack has no dull moments. Songs like Palat and Besharmi keep the fun element intact right through.
