Khamoshi is very predictable, warns Namrata Thakker.
Filmmaker Chakri Toleti’s Khamoshi is a painfully dull remake of a good Hollywood thriller called Hush.
I love the thriller genre and was surprisingly impressed with the trailer of Khamoshi.
Since I had watched the original, I was keen on watching the Hindi version to see if the makers had done justice to it.
But I was so disappointed.
Starring Tamannaah and Prabhu Deva, Khamoshi is about a deaf and mute girl, Surbhi (Tamannaah), who inherits a lot of wealth and a mansion after her adoptive mother passes away. She decides to donate part of it to an orphanage since she was an orphan herself.
A few people -- like Mr and Mrs Desai (Sanjay Suri and Bhumika Chawla) -- aren’t happy with her decision and eye her wealth.
The story really takes off when Dev (Prabhu Deva) comes into the picture.
He is schizophrenic and believes that Surbhi’s mansion rightfully belongs to him.
Surbhi and Dev are somehow related and the back story is very Bollywoodish.
Anyway, Dev arrives at the mansion and goes on a killing spree. Does he manage to kill Surbhi?
The movie is very predictable, so no surprises there.
Khamoshi simply fails to pack a punch as it has no thrills or scares.
If Chakri Toleti had simply copied Hush as it is, Khamoshi would have been better and not like the typical Bollywood thriller that it has turned out to be.
Both Tamannaah and Prabhu Deva are mediocre in the film.
Sanjay Suri and Bhumika Chawla hardly have any scenes and the rest of the supporting cast does not make an impact.
