Zayed Khan made his debut with Chura Liya Hai Tumne, opposite Esha Deol, in 2003. The film sank but Zayed stayed on. His next film, Farah Khan's Main Hoon Na, put him firmly on the map.

"I am here to stay and I thank God for giving me an opportunity to work with Shah Rukh Khan in such a short span of my career," he says.

His next release, Vaada, stars Arjun Rampal and Amisha Patel, and is directed by Satish Kaushik.

"The music of the film is good. (Music director) Himesh Reshamiya has done a brilliant job," says Zayed. "It will push the film further. Satish Kaushik has made a very different film. But I must not be overconfident. I always keep my fingers crossed."

10 films to watch out for in 2005

Zayed plays a 'lover' with a split personality in the film. "I see everything in black and white," he explains. "I don't see beyond my beliefs and am blind to other people's point of views. I am very obsessive. I fall in love with a person who is totally unlike me."

Vaada is about a businessman (Arjun Rampal) and his wife (Amisha Patel). The couple is madly in love with each other but Arjun loses his eyesight after a tragic accident. He goes abroad and befriends and invites Zayed to join his business. When Zayed lands up at his house, he discovers that Arjun's wife is his ex-girlfriend.

Zayed feels Vaada is a milestone for him. "It has given me an opportunity to feel charged about something. If you have not done a film with Puja Films (producer Vashu Bhagnani's banner), it means you have not done a Hindi film. Vashu is a very straightforward man. He gives you whatever you want. I have built a strong bond with him."

The actor likes to don a new look with different films. "My character demands it and so, I do it. Besides, I like to wear a band on my right hand. I don't know why. I want to keep changing myself. I get these ideas, and I just adapt to them. That is my style," he says.

Asked if he can carry a film on his shoulders alone, Zayed says, "I don't think anything is impossible. If I get a chance, I will prove that I can carry a film on my shoulders. But everything depends on God."

After Vaada, Zayed will romance Aishwarya Rai in Shabd, also starring Sanjay Dutt.
