Why Satish Kaushik had Rs 1 crore at home

May 21, 2014 17:25 IST

Satish KaushikActor-filmmaker Satish Kaushik’s domestic help allegedly robbed his home of Rs 1 crore recently, and the question of celebrity safety in Mumbai when it comes to hiring domestic staff rises once again.

Kaushik is relieved that his family wasn't harmed.

“Anything could’ve happened to my wife and daughter," he says. "The servant, who was from Jharkhand, had won us over. My daughter played with him and my wife trusted his presence in the house. Anything could have happened since I was not at home at the time of the incident. I made the mistake of not verifying his credentials before employing him. My driver got me the domestic help, and assured me that he was reliable. I realise we should never employ anyone without a complete identity verification.”

But why did he have such a huge amount of cash in his house?

"It was three-day weekend, and I needed to hand over that cash on Monday morning as part of a business deal for a film," he explains. "How was I to know that someone we trusted would pull off such a daring act?”

The CCTV footage in Kaushik's building has captured the offender red-handed and the police have assured him that the offender will be nabbed at the earliest.

“He can’t leave Mumbai and go back to his hometown Bokaro since the departure points are under surveillance,” says Satish.” Hopefully, I’ll get back the money."
