April 30, 2008 13:44 IST

Yeh Shaam Mastani is a new show on Sony, which will replace K for Kishore on Friday and Saturday at 9 pm. It is a weekend musical journey with seven top singers Kailash Kher, Kunal Ganjawala, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Sukwinder Singh, Shankar Mahadevan, Shaan and Sunidhi Chauhan.

Hosted by Mini Mathur, each episode will showcase the musical prowess of an artist who will perform live for the studio audience. Each singer will showcase some of his/her favourite songs; sing a solo or duet with a fan, and a request song by the audience.

Sukhwinder SinghThe episodes will be interspersed with interesting anecdotes and milestones from the singers' musical careers.

Albert Almeida executive VP & Business Head of Sony Entertainment Television, said, "It is a musical journey through their entire careers."

Asked what will be the USP of the show, he added, "The singers themselves are the USP of the show because they are the original playback singers".

As for the format, he added, "There is no format; everyone is treated independently based on their experiences."

Kailash KherWhich suited the singers just fine. "This is an out and out musical show -- very real and natural. No crying, no sms voting and no yudh (fights). So this show is going to be relaxing for the audience," Sukhwinder Singh said.

Sunidhi Chauhan however found slotting the songs difficult. "I have sung most of my popular songs and also some which are not mine," she added.

"I thoroughly enjoyed being on the show. We shot for a day, which went by so fast," the singer continued.

Echoing similar sentiments, Kailash Kher said "Earlier people knew the singers only by their songs. Singers were behind the scenes but now that has changed. And it is all because of these shows. I am very happy to be part of this musical treat."
