Laxmi Rai
Age: 27

Laxmi Rai has completed 10 years in the film industry and has already done 50 odd films.

She will make her Hindi film debut with Julie 2. She also has a cameo in the Sonakshi Sinha-starrer Akira.

Forthcoming films: Julie 2, Akira, Motta Shiva Ketta Shiva, Arabian Safari, Santhoshayi Gopiyetta and Oru Ticket la Rendu.

Namitha
Age: 35

Former Miss Surat Namitha joined the Telugu film industry in 2002 with the film Sontham.

She became so popular that at one point in time, Namitha was one of the most goggled actresses in India.

Forthcoming films: Parvathi Pura and Pottu.

Nayanthara
Age: 31

Nayanthara started her career as a model. Director Sathyan Anthikkad spotted her in an ad and offered her Manassinakkare in 2003.

Nayanthara was born with the name Diana Mariam Kurian. Nayanthara was her stage name. After converting to Hinduism in 2011, she made her stage name her official one.

Forthcoming films: Iru Mugan, Kashmora, Dora and Minjur Gopi's next. 

Priyamani
Age: 32

Model-turned-actress Priyamani started her acting career at the age of 18 with the Telugu film Evare Atagaadu.

Her item song 1 2 3 4 Get on the Dance Floor in Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Chennai Express became very popular.

Priyamani recently got engaged to Mustafa Raj in a private ceremony.

Amala Paul
Age: 24

Amala Paul and hotshot director Vijay had a fairytale wedding in 2014 but are now heading for divorce.

The actress is trying to find her feet back in showbiz, and has already signed up a couple of movies.

Forthcoming films: 2 Penkuttikal, Hebbuli and Vada Chennai.

Tamannaah
Age: 26

Tamannaah is one of the most sought after actresses in the south today, and recently featured opposite Ranveer Singh in the ad film, Ranveer Ching Returns.

She also stars in the other most awaited movie franchise, Baahubali. The concluding part of the film will release in 2017.

She's also working on a tri-lingual called Abhinetri, to be made in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu simultaneously.

Shraddha Das
Age: 29

Shraddha Das started her career in Telugu cinema with Siddu From Sikakulam. She has featured in quite a few Hindi films, the latest being this year's Great Grand Masti.

Hansika Motwani
Age: 25

Hansika started her career as a child artist in Hindi television and films.

Her first leading role as an adult was in Puri Jagannadh's Telugu blockbuster Desamuduru, opposite Allu Arjun. She was only 13 at the time.

Now, she's among the busiest actresses down south.

Forthcoming films: Bogan and Vettai Mannan.

Anushka Shetty
Age: 34

Baahubali actress Anushka Shetty's real name is Sweety Shetty.

Her career is going fantastically well, thanks to her delivering at least one hit film every year -- 2013's Singham 2, 2015's Baahubali: The Beginning and 2016's Oopiri. The year 2014 saw her with Superstar Rajinikanth in Lingaa.

Forthcoming films: S3, Baahubali: The Conclusion, Bhagmati and Om Namo Venkatesaya.

Shriya Saran
Age: 33

After making her debut in 2001's Istam, Shriya Saran has become one of the most successful actresses down south. She has starred in Hindi films as well as international movies like Deepa Mehta's Midnight's Children.

Forthcoming films: Tadka, Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan and Gautamiputra Satakarni.

 

Samantha Ruth Prabhu
Age: 29

Samantha started her career with Gautham Menon's 2010 Telugu film, Ye Maaya Chesave.

The Eega actress, who was in a relationship with actor Siddharth until January 2015, tested Bollywood with a cameo in Ekk Deewana Tha, starring Prateik Babbar and Amy Jackson.

Forthcoming films: Janatha Garage, and Ponram's next.

Trisha Krishnan
Age: 33

Not many know that Trisha started her career as an supporting actress in 1999's Jodi. She debuted as lead actress three years later, in the film Mounam Pesiyadhe.

Trisha was engaged to Chennai-based businessman Varun Manian in 2015 but unfortunately, the engagement broke off a few months later.

She was seen in the Akshay Kumar-starrer Khatta Meetha but the film sank.

Bhavana
Age: 30

Bhavana's real name is Karthika Menon. Her father was a cinematographer.

Bhavana made her debut at the age of 16, in the Malayalam superhit Nammal.

She is the brand ambassador for the CCL (Celebriti Cricket League) team Kerala Strikers.

Forthcoming films: Adventures of Omanakuttan, Manjina Hani, Vilakkumaram, Kuttikalunde Sookshikuka, Swapnathekkal Sundaram and Honey Bee 2.

 

Mamta Mohandas
Age: 30

Mamta started her career in Malayalam cinema with 2005's Mayookham.

A cancer survivor, not many know that Mamta is trained in Carnatic and Hindustani music, and has sung songs in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.

Forthcoming films: Thoppil Joppan and Baby Sitter.

Pranitha Subhash
Age: 23

Pranitha's doctor parents run a hospital in Bangalore but she chose to pursue an acting career instead. She made her debut with the Kannada film, Porki, in 2010.

She is the brand ambassador of the CCL team Karnataka Bulldozers.

Forthcoming films: Enakku Vaaitha Adimaigal and Leader.

 

Ramya
Age: 33

Ramya has been in the news recently after a lawyer filed a complaint in a court seeking action on sedition and other charges against her for 'insulting' Indian patriots by her remark that 'Pakistan is not hell'.

Ramya, however, stood by her words.

Ramya, whose real name is Divya Spandana, is a Congress leader.

Vimala Raman
Age: 36

Australia-based Vimala Raman won the Miss India Australia title in 2004.

She is a trained Bharatanatayam dancer, and made her debut in the 2005 Tamil film, Poi.

Regina Cassandra
Age: 27

One of the busiest actresses down south, Regina has as many as eight movies in 2016.

She will be making her Bollywood debut soon in Anees Bazmee's Aankhen 2, starring Amitabh Bachchan.

Forthcoming films: Shankara, Nenjam Marappathillai, Maanagaram, Jo Achyutananda, Gemini Ganeshanum Suruli Raajanum and Rajathanthiram 2.

 

Shruti Haasan
Age: 30

Kamal Haasan and Sarika's daughter Shruti worked in her father's award-winning film Hey! Ram at a very early age.

She made her Bollywood debut with Luck, and has since worked in many Hindi, Tamil and Telugu movies. A good singer, Shruti has done playback singing in a couple of films.

The film she's probably looking forward to the most is Sabaash Naidu, where she shares screen space with her father.

Taapsee Pannu
Age: 29

Punjabi girl Taapsee made her debut in Telugu cinema with Jhummandi Naadam.

She's a big hit down south but Taapsee is trying to concentrate on her Bollywood career as well.

Her film Pink -- with director Shoojit Sircar and actor Amitabh Bachchan -- is looking very promising, thanks to its thrilling trailer.

Kajal Agarwal
Age: 31

Did you know Kajal Agarwal's first acting role was playing a friend to Aishwarya Rai in Kyun! Ho Gaya Na...?

Though Kajal mostly does Tamil and Telugu films, she dabbles in Hindi films as well.

Priya Anand
Age: 29

Chennai girl Priya tried her hand at modelling and television before making her debut in the movies, with Tamil film Vaamanan.

Priya has starred in Hindi films too like English Vinglish, Fukrey and Rangrezz.

Forthcoming films: Kootathil Oruthan, Muthuramalingam, Rajakumara and Ezra.

Nithya Menen
Age: 28

Nithya aspired to be a journalist and studied for it. But after finishing her course, she changed her mind and aspired to be a filmmaker. She enrolled for a course in cinematography at the FTII Pune but director Nandini Reddy persuaded her to become an actress instead.
