Thalaivi trailer: Kangana is spot on as Jaya

The Thalaivi trailer is effective, observes Moumita Bhattacharjee, who hopes there will be more to the film than just heroine worship.

The Thalaivi trailer is exactly what we thought it would be.

Chronicling J Jayalalitha's journey from movie star to chief minister, the film is a rousing ode to the woman who commanded devotion across Tamil Nadu.

Kangana Ranaut plays the titular role and there couldn't have been a better fit.

The first half of the trailer is dedicated to how Jayalalitha becomes Amma, AIADMK leader and chief minister.

Her courage and grit in male-dominated professions to achieve what she did will leave you inspired though the trailer doesn't really show many instances of conflict.

The standout scene will definitely be what happened to Jayalalitha in the Tamil Nadu assembly, which is shocking and devastating to watch.

I hope the story of this hugely popular and powerful woman won't get overlooked due to the grandeur that the film promises.

Nobody could have played the character like Kangana does.

She is ballsy, strong and extremely focused in this role.

The trailer chronicles her range from being an actress in love to a commanding force in Indian politics. Good casting for sure.

The Thalaivi trailer is effective, but I hope there will be more to the film than just heroine worship!
