Rediff Wish list: Star pairs we'd like to see on Koffee With Karan

Who’d we like to see on Karan’s shows? Stars that get along? Nope. Stars who can’t stand each other, stars who have an interesting dynamic, stars we never get to see together.

In time for the new Koffee season, here’s the Rediff wishlist of combinations we’d love to see:

Salman Khan and Ranbir Kapoor

According to Bollywood legend, Khan beat Kapoor up in a club once long before Ranbir became a star. The two have been relatively cool since, with Salman even showing up in Ranbir’s Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. But how cool will the most flammable of Khans be now with the youngster who is now dating Khan’s ex-girlfriend, Katrina?

Priyanka Chopra and Gauri Khan

There have been far too many rumours about Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra, and a conversation like this would give Gauri, one of Karan’s friends, a chance to tell her side of the story.

Does she hate Priyanka? Do the two get along? Or will Johar and Khan gang up and make the exotic girl wail? Either way it’s going to be good television.

Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif

Padukone took many a dig at Kaif back when she was last on KWK, and it’d be fun to see a full-on claws out kinda catfight on the show, with no room for subtlety.

Kaif was the bigger star then, Padukone is arguably today’s Number One, and this will definitely be worth a watch.

Sonam Kapoor and Kangna Ranaut

They’re both known for their fashion sense. They’re both known for their accented English. And they’re both diametrically different people.

They’re also not fond of one another, and a lineup like this — with Johar naturally adding fuel to any potential fire — will surely make for a must-see clash.

Ram Gopal Varma and Sanjay Bhansali

This one’s a three-way. Karan Johar’s brawled with Ramu several times across Twitter, and the scorn the two directors have for each other is evident.

Johar’s reportedly also not the biggest Bhansali fan, while Bhansali himself is said to like no director other than himself.

Get these three in a room and they won’t need boxing gloves — though one of ‘em might carry a knuckle-duster.

Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar

They might have reunited recently against a common foe (namely, the new Zanjeer) but the legendary scriptwriting tag-team are hardly even seen together these days, and apparently can’t stand one-another.

Animosity or not, it’ll be fascinating to see these two in action together, picking each other’s brains and letting us into insights that shaped many a classic film.

Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi

At the same time that Anil and Jackie were getting along like a house on fire, Dixit and Sri were getting on each other’s nerves, with Hindi cinema’s most closely-fought battle for the Number One slot, a battle that indeed made the number game more important than it ever was.

Now, with both ladies more mature, it’ll be wonderful to see them exchange civilities. Or sarcasm.

Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth

The two biggest legends in Hindi and Tamil cinema respectively, Bachchan and Rajni have always professed enormous mutual respect and admiration.

And what could be a bigger episode, or indeed a more watched episode, than one that unites the two soft-spoken but articulate greats? Karan should conjure this up and mostly stay out of the way in this one.

Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan

What would a Koffee finale be without the one and only Shah Rukh Khan? And who would we most like to see next to the Baadshah?

The answer is fiendishly simple, and while this might look like the most impossible of coups, one shouldn’t rule it out — especially if Karan can wrap up his shoot before the release of Dhoom 3, which Aamir will be promoting fiercely.

Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff

Thanks to a bunch of two-hero movies through the 80s and early 90s, these two made for one of Hindi cinema’s most enduring buddy jodis.

Naturally there were rumours, both of a homosexual fling, and of ridiculous heterosexuality, that the two shared the same women. Be that as it may, it’ll be a hoot to watch Ram and Lakhan together again.
