Amrita Puri and Sushant Singh Rajput in Kai Po Che!
'Phoolon ka taaron ka sabka kehna hai. Ek hazaaron mein meri behna hai.'

'Mere bhaiya, mere chanda, mere anmol ratan. Tere badle mein zamane ki koi cheez na loon.'

The loving bond between a brother and sister is fondly depicted in many a Hindi films.

From Nanda playing the doting sister to Balraj Sahni and Rehman, Rajesh Khanna going all out for sister Naaz in Sachha Jhutha, Dev Anand and Zeenat Aman's memorable siblings in Hare Rama Hare Krishna and Amitabh Bachchan's pampering bhaiya to a doe-eyed Farida Jalal in Majboor, the imagery is deeply ingrained in our memories.

Though the tone of such expressions has changed with time, it's impact is no less effective.

And so this Raksha Bandhan, we ask you, dear readers, to vote for your favourite on screen brother-sister jodis from recent times.

Sushant Singh Rajput- Amrita Puri, Kai Po Che!

Like any normal siblings Ishaan and Vidya, Sushant Singh Rajput and Amrita Puri get into endless arguments and even whack the other.

But, like any other siblings, they hold each other dear and are capable of that wonderful rule every family follows -- forgive and forget.

Prateik Babbar and Genelia D'Souza in Jaane Tu Yaa...Jaane Naa
Please don't be fooled by Prateik Babbar's quirky ways and outward disinterest as he pokes fun of his tomboy sister's romantic life with sarcastic jibes. Not to take it lying down, she responds with equal amount of wild aggression.

Only under that unruly camaraderie is a rare blend of sensitivity and affection, which comes into play when need arises.

Divya Dutta and Farhan Akhtar in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag
Like most elder sisters, Divya Dutta's Isri Kaur is a motherly figure in Milkha Singh's, played by Farhan Akhtar, life offering him unconditional love and support even if it leads to nasty repercussions.

The latter, too, reciprocates with warm, protective, respectful fervour, gifting her a similar pair of gold earrings she sold off for his sake, with his earnings.

Riya Vij-Arbaaz Kadwani, Gippi

Riya Vij and Arbaaz Kadwani in Gippi
Gippi is the typical teen sister concerned with the changes in her life, body and school while her mostly ignored roly-poly kid brother, BooBoo secretly hero worships her.

Beyond the usual squabbles and quibbling, however, Gippi and BooBoo are deeply supportive of each other's idiosyncrasies and share a sporting sense of humour.

Aditi Vasudev-Archit Krishna, Do Dooni Chaar

Like Gippi, the feel-good family caper Do Dooni Chaar too focuses on the brother-sister equation of a college going teenager and her over smart brother in school.

While they both leave no opportunity to insult each other, it's amusing to see them gang up against their parents when a common need comes up. Sounds home, doesn't it?

Hrithik Roshan and Karisma Kapoor in Fiza
Film critic/filmmaker Khalid Mohammed's Fiza explores the sentimentality enveloping a brother-sister pair of Karisma Kapoor and Hrithik Roshan.

Mohammed's premise involves an idealistic sister's pursuit for her brother only to discover he's part of a terrorist outfit and how this realisation affects their fate and beliefs.

Juhi Chawla and Sanjay Suri in My Brother Nikhil

As the title suggests, Onir's directorial debut is all about loving your sibling in the face of injustice and prejudice.

And Juhi Chawla conveys the unconditionally supportive sister with tremendous grace even as society torments her swimming champion brother (Sanjay Suri) for being afflicted with AIDS.

It's not everyday two mainstream superstars decide to team up as bhai behen. But director Mansoor Khan convincingly pulled off this unusual combination casting Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai as twins who dote on each other.

The couple shares a playful, spunky chemistry in a film that doesn't quite match up.

Kajol-Arbaaz Khan, Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya

Last updated on: August 20, 2013 16:53 IST
Kajol and Arbaaz Khan in Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya
It's Bollywood's favourite scenario -- a conservative, over protective big brother and his demure, obedient kid sister and the disapproval in his tone when she falls for a carefree, fun-loving dude.

Arbaaz Khan plays the stern 'bade bhaiya' rather comfortably while Kajol's turns down her fiery volume to slip into the soft-spoken avatar of his gentle 'behna.'

Saif Ali Khan, Neelam, Salman Khan and Monish Bahl in Hum Saath Saath Hain
For Sooraj R Barjatya's joint family scenario, Neelam returns to her usual chirpy self enjoying the attention of her loving, caring, wonderful brothers, in true Rajshri tradition, played by Mohinish Bahl, Salman Khan and Saif Ali Khan.

So genuine is their devotion, it's easy to forget Neelam was Sallu and Saifu's love interest in films like Ek Ladka Ek Ladki and Parampara.
