Shanvi Srivastava and Chiranjeevi Sarja in Chandralekha

Two Kannada films will compete against each other to grab the attention of audiences this Friday, March 7: the Chiranjeevi Sarja starrer Chandralekha and Dil Rangeela with Ganesh in the lead.

Chandralekha is directed by veteran N Omprakash Rao and Dil Rangeela by Preetham Gubbi.

Chandralekha

Director: N Omprakash Rao

Cast:  Chiranjeevi Sarja, Shanvi Srivastava, Sadhu Kokila, Nagashekar

This film is a remake of the Telugu film Prema Katha Chitram.

Director Omprakash Rao who is known for making action films like AK 47 is trying to transition into making a ‘horror comedy’ that has a little bit of romance as well.

“I wanted to try my hand at making a different kind of film. Chandralekha is a perfect mixture of romance, comedy and horror,” says Rao.

He says about 90 per cent of the film has been shot in the night and the horror elements were enough reason for his cast to get spooked.

Sadhu Kokila’s full-length comedy role is the highlight of the film, the director says.

Chiranjeevi Sarja says, “I got the opportunity to work with three directors, two of whom were acting with me and this film helped me learn a lot of things from them.”

Nagashekar says, “I should compliment Chiru for doing a lot of homework while playing this role and for underplaying his character.”

JB has scored the music and Ravikumar is the cinematographer. Sridhar Reddy has produced the film.

Preetham Gubbi and Ganesh are working together after a gap of four years. This is their third film after Mungaru Male and Maleyali Jotheyali.

Ganesh plays a chef in the film. The role required him to shed a lot of weight.

According to director Preetham Gubbi, “Life is colourful but you have to choose the right colour is what we want to say through this film. The hero has to choose between love and money.”

Gubbi says most of the film has been shot in Goa, during Christmas time when the place is full of tourists.

Rachitha Ram, who is fresh from the success of her first film Bulbul, says she plays a “fun-loving, cute, normal and independent girl who is a Goan and lives with her grandparents and her sister.”

H C Venu is the cinematographer. The film has been shot in five-star hotels in Mysore, Goa, and also in Bangalore.

Arjun Janya has scored the music with Ankit Tiwari of Aashiqui 2 fame singing two songs.

Prashanth has penned the dialogues and K Manju is the producer of the film.
