IIM Bangalore students celebrate Rajnikanth's birthday

December 12, 2005, students of IIM Bangalore were not analyzing case studies for their classes the next day. They weren't editing their resumes, making presentations, studying for exams, playing Tsepak, watching cricket, chatting on BRacket, or doing any of the other activities they are generally known to do.

While others were carrying their books, they were busy celebrating the birthday of none other than Superstar Rajnikanth! And in what style (Rajni style of course!).

Celebrations started with the student president of IIM Bangalore breaking a pumpkin in front of a life-sized Rajni poster placed outside the mess. Posters and collages decorated the walls to make the campus look like a fan club.

A special screening of Rajni's Padayappa had been organised. The audience burst into applause and whistles at every punch, dialogue and action coming from the superstar. His 'En vazhi thani vazhi (I walk a separate path)' was a rage!

The entire student community, irrespective of whether they understood Tamil or not, joined in. They were dressed in Rajnikanth style and were 'koothu' (a Tamil folk dance) dancing to his popular numbers.

The celebrations ended with the cutting of a cake, followed by the bursting of crackers and the distribution of sweets to every hostel room.

Four years later, the same group decided to have a reunion at a theatre showing Endhiran in Mumbai on Friday. Seventy-three percent of the seating capacity of the hall was taken up by this group (along with friends and family). So you know whom to blame for the tickets you could not buy for the Friday night show in Mumbai!
