Amitabh Bachchan's Top 10 Recent Hits

At 71, Amitabh Bachchan is still a money-spinner.

Amitabh Bachchan's cinematic journey can be divided into two phases -- before and after Mohabbatein.

While he enjoyed many blockbusters in the 1970s and the 1980s and 1990s and achieved cult status, a lull in his career followed.

Mohabbatein (2000) changed all that, and he came back with a bang.

After that, he worked tirelessly and continued giving many hits.

Last week, we saw Amitabh 'scare' us with Bhoothnath Returns. 

We look at some of his biggest hits after the year 2000.

Amitabh's biggest hit till date is Karan Johar's Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

Johar tugged at the emotional strings, and had Big B playing a patriarch in a multi-starrer affair comprising of Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor and Jaya Bachchan.

The film is Bachchan's biggest blockbuster overseas as well.

Box Office collections: Rs 45 crores

The man was clearly having fun while playing a badass cop in YRF's Bunty Aur Babli.

Though the title roles were played by Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji, Bachchan Sr put in a pivotal role as well.

The film's biggest highlight is the Kajra Re song, with the father-son duo and Aishwarya Rai (not a Bachchan yet then), dancing.

Box Office collections: Rs 35 crores.

When Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Amitabh Bachchan decided to come together for a film, it had to be something special.

Black was as experimental as it gets, with Rani Mukerji playing a deaf, mute and blind girl and the Big B edging towards Alzheimer's.

Commercially, this film carried bleak prospects but urban audiences were quite receptive.

When Amitabh Bachchan stepped into this multi-starrer affair, Sanjay Gupta's Kaante was one of the biggest films on floor.

The action thriller found a good audience for Bachchan as well as the rest of the cast -- Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Mahesh Manjrekar, Kumar Gaurav and Lucky Ali.

Clearly, this is Bachchan's most challenging role till date, in a career spanning over four decades.

He played a teenage boy with a fatal disease and his real life son Abhishek Bachchan played his dad and Vidya Balan played by mother.

Director R Balki carried a vision and the Big B was more than happy to execute it extremely well on the screen. And the audience loved it!

One of Bachchan's most popular recent roles, Sarkar was a powerful affair with director Ram Gopal Varma in explosive form.

Bachchan came up with a terrific performance, and his baritone made all the difference.

The film was received so well that it spawned a sequel called Sarkar Raj.

Both films starred Abhishek Bachchan.

Box Office collections: Rs 28 crores.

We saw a glimpse of the vintage Amitabh Bachchan in his cop role in Rajkumar Santoshi's Khakee.

With a stellar cast including Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn and Aishwarya Rai, Khakee was a masala outing, led by Bachchan.

The film was a good commercial entertainer and was well accepted.

Box Office collections: Rs 27 crores

Amitabh Bachchan paired up with his co-star of many films, Hema Malini in Baghban.

Their onscreen chemistry was brilliant, and their emotions, quite touching.

The film's social message enhanced it.

This was a film that started it all again.

Legend has it that when Amitabh Bachchan was down and out, he called up filmmaker Yash Chopra and asked him for a film.

It didn't take long for Yash Chopra and his son Aditya to spin a strong character for Bachchan in Mohabbatein.

With Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai bringing on the star quotient, Big B was back, and how!
