Actresses quit the screen to get married. When they quit marriage, they return to acting.

Vide Sarika, estranged wife of southern superstar Kamal Haasan, who will appear in a song sequence in Punnagai Poove, a Tamil film slated for release on April 14 (Tamil New Year's Day).

The film is produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu under the V Creations banner. Thanu had, a little over a year ago, produced the mega-budget Kamal Haasan-Raveena Tandon starrer, Aalavandhan (Abhay in Hindi), which bombed at the box-office.

Punnagai Poove, starring Nanda with newcomers Kaveri and Rekha, is being directed by Saba. Ilayaraja's younger son Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed the music, while Raju Khan has choreographed the song sequence starring Sarika.

Dancers were flown in from Mumbai for shooting the sequence which is being wrapped in one extended session this week. Sarika -- who is accompanied for the shoot by daughters Shruti and Akshara -- has designed her own costumes, which were tailored in Kolkata.

The one-time Bollywood beauty shows no sign of the accident last year when she fell off the terrace of her Chennai home and damaged her hipbone. On the set, she learns the movements quick and cans her takes in one shot.

Seemingly as much of a perfectionist as her former husband, Sarika has taken the trouble of learning the saxophone from Martin, a musician from Holland. She also plays the piano during the sequence.

For Sarika, this is both a comeback and a signal of intent to return to the silver screen. Interestingly, actresses who drop out and return after several years of marriage tend to opt for the 'mother' type roles. Sarika, 43, has chosen a song-and-dance appearance as her comeback vehicle.

She has signed a contract with Pantaloon, the clothing company, and is due to appear as its brand ambassador shortly. The word is that negotiations are on and she will, in all likelihood, sign on for a lead role in a Tamil film shortly.

It is also a comeback of sorts for Thanu who had taken a huge hit following the failure of Aalavandhan. Besides Punnagai Poove, Thanu also has Kaaka Kaaka on the floors, with Gautam Menon directing the high profile pairing of Surya and Jyothika.
