Last updated on: February 19, 2007 00:24 IST

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was on Sunday night admitted to a Mumbai hospital after he experienced chest pain.

Saif, adjudged for the Stardust award for the best negative role in Omkara, was rehearsing for his dance performance at the awards function when he complained of chest pain at about 1700 hours.

The actor was admitted to the Leelavati hospital in suburban Bandra in Central Mumbai, where he underwent angiography.

"Aound 9:30 pm, the actor arrived here for examination," vice pesident of Mumbai's suburban Leelavati Hospital Narendra Trivedi said.

The 36-year-old actor is currently being examined and it is too premature to say what the reason for the pain is, Trivedi said.

Saif's sister Soha and girlfriend Rosa were the first to reach the hospital. A host of Bollywood stars -- including Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Vidhu Vinod Chopra (director of Eklavya), Priety Zinta, Farhan Akhtar, Fardeen Khan, Zayed Khan and Pradeep Sarkar -- also visited Saif.

Saif, who returned from South Africa on Saturday night after a shoot, had last year undergone an appendix operation.

Sources also added that Saif, who is under intensive care, may have to be in the hospital for a week.
